SELF- DISCIPLINE

Webster defines gluttony  as excess in eating or drinking! it is greedy or excessive indulgence. Boy is that a mouthful. I don't like what I'm seeing in our Society. At the casinos today I saw a person riding around in a scooted. This person made a "fat" person look thin....400- 600 pounds and gambling like there was no tomorrow. I think e are heading in the direction of the Romans riding as passengers in the Titanic. Not good.

How self-disciplined are you? Proudly I can say my immediate family is not over-weight. As I see it we must get our sleep, eat some food, exercise our bodies and our beans. I kid you not. Our vices can make life miserable; I know, I've been there. You can call me righteous... I say I'm self-disciplined and work at it.

Call me a "preacher" I say you must tighten your spiritual belts. Temptations in our society run rampant.. No better place to see things are at the casinos. .Foxwood and Mohegan-Sun. Amazing what I see.. it scares me.

It seems people are running wild when they should be "just running." If you are not setting examples of  discipline.."What's It All About, Alfy?" My military life at age 23 was marvelous. Run the mile at 6:00 AM.. drink near-beer and " smoke them if you have them." Later Dr. Louis B. Grace told me "animal fat" was a main cause of "human fat." Are we "Cushions?"..a.k.a. PIGS! We must take time to take stake in our lifestyles.

Sure I eat but I'm learning not to overeat. It's not hard for me to lose weight with my purely dentures. Man, I tell you. The VA has been wonderful in getting me on the right track. over the past 5 years. Study everything before you put food in your mouth. Look at the labels and the grams of sugar. I know, I know..us Frenchmen loved pan-fried bacon strips. It's almost like everything is harmful for our diets.

Dr. Grace had a doctor named Schreiner you espoused "The sum of a man's vices is a constant." I don't know if I agree with that philosophy. I blamed this and I blamed that because I was fat. The truth is I didn't know how eat properly. Maybe I still don't? But I'm learning. Are you "living to eat? or are you living to eat?

Yes, yes, yes...do this.. don't do that..."moderation, my son." As the Eagles singer and clown, Joe Walsh sings..."One Day at a Time." Don't fall off the wagon because  you may not have the energy to pull yourself back up.

Finally, Dr. Grace recommends the "Push away method in losing weight".. just push yourselves away from your table!
