BASEBALL HISTORY

The MLB Network has been featuring baseball history tonight for hours. Id love it! Seeing and hearing old Connie Mack for one last time reminds me of Connie Mack Day, July 10, 1934. The celebration was held on the North Brookfield Common.  The green and white bound program is quite impressive.

Tonight's program is wonderful as it portrays Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams as they were...Jolting Joe with his 56 hit record and Williams hitting .406 in the same year. Two different personalities.. both Rock Stars with their baseball bats. Nothing like the duo in opposition.

Tonight's features were Bob Uecker and Ken Harrelson.. both celebrities in their own right and both team announcers...Uecker for the Brewers and Harrelson for Cleveland? Both men are extremely talented. To be a good announcer you must know the game of baseball and know players, their statistics and their talents.

Team announcers must be good salesmen. "High Neighbor, Have a Gansett." Remember Curt Gowdy? Curt was from Wyoming and I even saw a state park bearing his name in Laramie. Curt spoke at Aetna Men's Club when I worked there and even spoke with him about Ted Williams. Today's announcers are younger and I like Vin Scully the best.

The new year means the announcing of Cooperstown's Hall of Fame candidates on Wednesday. I will watch this at 3:00 PM. I have not looked up the candidates yet. I know one thing.  IF you are in Cooperstown you are a great pitcher or slugger. It may be time for a return to Cooperstown. One of the last times was my taking of Jimmy Wiley in 1990. Jimmy was a player and a great fan.

I have an inkling to attend Spring Training in Florida. A definite maybe.

Monday I return to Boston but not for baseball. Gotta  get my red blood cells and platelets tested.

Johnson has the Nyquil flu. No casinos today. I did laundry and other things. Josh and Heidi are settling into their lovely Birch Hill Manor. Lucky kids with 4 kids.

It's cold and I'm old. So what. I enjoy my life. Period.
