ME AND CARLY SIMON

I was traveling to Sydney, Australia in July of 1990. As an auctioneer I was curious to know of the Australian auctioneers method of marketing. As I walked through the doors of T.J. Hooker, Ltd I heard a familiar voice singing "NOBODY DOES IT BETTER" Of course this was the voluptuous voice of Carly Simon. how alluring and sensual.

Four years later I received a note from Carly Simon inviting me to a party on Martha's Vineyard..."1,000.00 a head for admission. This didn't scare me as I knew Carly Simon worked with Jackie Kennedy in the book editing profession. Carly's dad was co-founder of Simon & Shuster. I really wanted to attend go so I called the promoter saying "I don't have $1,000 but I do have $500 all going to Governor Mario Cuomo. It would prove to be a fantastic hit for yours truly.

The invitation said how the Governor liked blue so I dressed accordingly. I was the first at Carly's doorstep. As the door opened, Carly Simon beamed and said "I guess I'm your hostess, won't you come in?" Immediately I noticed a lithograph of JFK  sent by me lying on her vanity. I said "I know you work with Jackie O and felt you should have this." Carly said 'It touched my heart." Wow.

As we sat down to have dinner, I sat next to Kitty Carlisle...."What's My Line?.. "To Tell The Truth!"
I felt completely at home as we "chowed down." and ate corn on the cob. We chatted at length. Darrel Hall and Carly Simon entertained the crowd of Democrats after we witnessed a friendly Mario Cuomo and son Andrew, The dynamic duo sat next to me! Phenomenal. The Governors speech was electrifying..."How was that, Andrew?" he asked!

That's What Dreams Are Made Of."

Today, I visited with my neighbors Gary and Donna. We reminisced about their daughter named Carly. I asked if they still had Carly Simon's autograph I obtained while on Martha's Vineyard"

'Yes, they  responded and Gary hustled up to this living quarters. Sure enough,  written on  Global note reads " TO CARLY WITH LOVE FROM A BIGGER CARLY." Can you believe that? Whenever I hear Carly Simons songs I reflect on that moment under a gibbous moon on "The Vine

yard" as ballet dancers revealed a certain culture I never had seen before.

"THANKS CARLY... "You're not so vein!

HISTORY OF THE EAGLES - CNN -2012

It was an exceptional Saturday night's entertainment on CNN for four hours on end. The entire documentary of Eagles, Eagles, Eagles from beginning to end.

The biggest and the best forever

HELL IN YOUR HANDS
Watch it!  With the passing of Glenn Frey Hell has truly frozen over.

NO SPACE-STATION SIGHTING - CLOUDY!

It is a cold January night  here in the Brookfields. It was equally as cold at the Connecticut casinos. I hobbled along with an arthritic left patella, a kink on my neck on the left side. Yes , I admit I'm getting older.. and my bunion pains me.. no relation to Paul Bunyan! LOL

There was a small cloud bank on the western skies obscuring any hope of seeing a miracle in the sky. The abyss tells me we are living at the right time. All of the Paul Wines of the past... well, I just don't know how to explain a January night in 1870, 1880, 1890, 1900, 1910 and 1920 long before rural electrification hit these parts. They knew no differently and had many, many babies.

If I thought blogging was something special back in 2007..My God, the world is on fire tonight. If you or your friends missed the train initially, it  is never too late to learn and enjoy the present

' THE ANTIQUARIAN SOCIETY & BOB POTVIN'S BLUETOOTH .JBL PULSE2

You can call me hip because I am at age 73.5 years today. LOL. Thomas Edison rings my chimes and the wonderful literary resources found at Worcester's American Antiquarian Society ( library) are revealing. From the get go from Elizabeth P to Andrew B I am having massive doses in fun. Allow me to explain.

The Age of Advanced Technologies sends shrills up my spine. I have grown in U.S. History from reading Historic American Newspapers an line and Connie Mack to finding today's vein of pure gold. A little booklet of 15 pages  ' THE PHONOGRPH and ITS INVENTOR THOMAS ALVAH EDISON AND A MEMOIR OF ITS INVENTOR by Frederick Garbit of Boston published this "baby" in 1878. A phenomenal find of yours truly.

In 1965 as a rookie for Aetna Casualty & Surety -390 main street, Worcester I was given a new leather school bag and a portable" Ediphone" Dictating Machine! This machine came with paper-thin plastic records the size of a 45 rpm. I inserted it.. dictated my investigative reports and gave them to whiz typist, Ethel Strange. Ethel was the absolute best.

From my "fast talking ways" I produced a 9777 Claim Report. Ina day or two my typed report ( in triplicate) came to Elsie Brogan for separation. Kay Broderick also handled the distribution of my reports. The amazing thing is I did not realize the impact of one Thomas Edison in my life. I was young..22 and wet behind the ears.

Today, upon discovering this amazing little booklet I have been catapulted into 'Advanced Edison research and I love it." In a sea of love Thomas Edison was truly a whale. My new Smart Phone is smarter than I realized. Sons Ben and Josh are totally behind Dad in his quest for truth.

Also, today I learned of the Christa McAulliff  Museum in Concord, NH. I do believe I am heading North on Monday as I want to get a closer look at Presidential hopeful, Carly F.  I guess I am connected to the right resources and yes,  Bob is wireless. Never did have braces on my teeth. LOL.

Met a nice lady at WENDY' as I devoured a bowl of Chili. This lady is all about CATS. Meow.

No car show for me. My find at the AAS on Edison preempted  all further needs in the City.. Thank God I'm A Country Boy!

WHAT IS THE VISION OF AMERICA TODAY?

I located a couple bits of inspiration today at Sturbridge Antiques: a 1932 colored an illustrated booklet on Thomas A. Edison published by JOHN HANCOCK Life and President Kennedy's "To Turn The Tide" published in 1962.Both of these gems are revealing. Throughout his book "Mr. President" quotes people across the ages. I really liked Kennedy's style. He was happy being president and his infectious smile was most revealing.

With JOHN HANCOCK the big insurance company ceased handing out these instructions in Patriotism three decades ago or thereabouts. They exploit Hancock's autograph as their symbol and don't spread the seeds of patriotism with out school kids. Same with LIBERTY MUTUAL. The exploit the Statue of Liberty by filming ads at Battery Park. Sure, where is their Americanism?

John F. Kennedy said " Anone who is honestly seeking a job and can't find it deserves the attention of the United States Government and the people...." ..Our programs must aim ay expanding American productive capacity at a rate that shows the world the vigor and the vitality of a free economy."

Edison said "it's 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration."

So were we all going in this media blitz of candidates as we jump into February?  Watch the Debate Monday night and listen carefully. The words and language may surprise us all.
