- Go around your house and make sure all windows are closed and locked.
- Run your hand around all exterior doors. Cold air coming in? HALT! Stuff newspapers until weather stripping can be attached to the exterior casings.
- Close your fireplace damper (but not with live ashes in it!)
- Do not close off bedrooms if you have circulating baseboard hot water heat! I once did and froze a pipe. No water circulating? Close off the door and heat exchanger.
- Good insulation is tantamount to energy conservation. I had 7K insulation 3-4 years ago with Mass Save for NOT! Nada.. Free. Job was done in March or April.
- How's your basement? Windows tight? Nail them tight.if you have to. Seventy-percent of heat loss is up, up and away!
- Pull your shades down at night.
- Lower your thermostat a couple of degrees
- Burning wood? Be extremely careful. I have had chimney fires up the gazoo.Yes, I am a Piro.
