HISTORIC BATES OBSERVATORY 1893 N.BROOKFIELD, MA

Just returned from an inspection of historic Bates Observatory!

A RENEWED SPIRIT OF MINE TO OVERSEE THE RESTORATION!

DETAILS:

I am requesting time to present my proposition to the North Brookfield Board of Selectmen on Tuesday. The gist of the matter is to consider "doing things right."
  • A handicapped accessible ramp must be made.
  • An elevator in the back of the brick structure must be designed and built.
  • A masonry contractor must be hired.
  • A cabinet maker must be hired, Semi-circular windows must be designed and built and installed. 18 windows must be custom built and installed.
  • A map of a 25 mile radius from the top of the tower reveals Bell Hill at 1,200 feet above sea level. Legend tells "Boston can be seen on a clear day. Nocturnal views go into the abyss. At one point telescopes were made available.
OF MOST IMPORTANCE IS TO EDUCATE OUR YOUTH. ALL SCHOOL KIDS MUST BE INTRODUCED TO WHAT AN OBSERVATORY REALLY IS.

Contemporary weather instruments must be installed. The records show Bell Hill experienced 110 mile per hour winds in the Hurricane of 1938!

Citizens of The Brookfields must get involved! Stand up and be counted!
