COLUMBUS

Back in 1954 Dr. Louis E. Roy sutured my left thumb which had been cut open by an exploding brass gear from my Grandfather Poulin's Regulator Clock! Pepere' died in 1946 and his cobbler shop on Forest Street remained in tack since his death.

In treating with Dr. Roy surprised me by showing me his United States stamp collection! Dr. Roy was a local historian. He obviously surmised I was worthy of viewing his philatelic properties...and I was thrilled to view his 1492-1892 Columbian Series.. from the one cent stamp to the $4
.00 stamp. He did not have the $5.00 Columbian.

Since then my stamp collecting hobby has yielded so many pleasures on cold winter nights.

Columbus not Columbo was quite the mariner. He was age 54 when he died in 1506. "Columbus hailed to a middle-class wool weaver of Genoa."
"His curiosities saw him go to sea at age 10." Columbus was a trader and traded along the coasts of West Africa. He eventually learned Latin, Portuguese and Castilian."

Columbus read widely about astronomy, geography and history..(much like your blogger!) I majored in Geography at Saint Louis and minored in Political Science and U.S. History!" CC had a keen interest in the Bible". In 1828 Washington Irving published a biography of Columbus. The biography reveals Catholic theologians INSISTED THE WORLD WAS FLAT! OMG

Aristotle popularized  and submitted submitted " the Earth is spherical."

FAST FORWARD TO THE PRESENT MOMENT

Satellites circumvent our Water Planet and reveal the truth 24-7!

Curious minds may log onto Wikipedia Christopher Columbus .. a 37 page accounting of all of Christopher's travels and his 4 trips to America.

It is for good reason we celebrate Columbus Day 2018 and it is better we learn more about the

"Admiral of the sea!"
