GENERAL RUFUS PUTNAM OF NORTH BROOKFIELD

This is one Famous American portrayed on U.S. Postage portraying RUFUS PUTNAM! Born in Rutland in 1738, Rufus served in the Continental Army from 1775 to 1783. He lived in North Brookfield for 20 years 1761 -1781 as evidenced by a granite marker found on roadside near the Mendala Farm at the top of Rufus Putnam Road!

He was instrumental in settling the Northwest Territory and carries the name of 'Father of the Northwest Territory!'

My esteemed friend and brother , Richard A. Fuller-brush is a graduate of Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. He even claims a family line to Putnam.

General Putnam was a self-educated man studying geography, mathematics and surveying. " After the Battle of Lexington and Concord, Putnam enlisted the same day, on April 19,1775. The legacy of Rufus Putnam is rich yet nothing much has been given to the General by the Town of North Brookfield! RP also was appointed by George Washington to be Chief of Engineers. Local historians, if any, gloss over a very important person...

Wikipedia manifests his entire life from 'stem to stern!' Check him out!
