COTTAGE STREET TREE REMOVAL...NEVER!

It is absolutely disgusting to learn of the of the "Narrow minded officials on the narrow minded proposal of  action to fell all the trees on Cottage Street, West Brookfield, Massachusetts! Cottage Street is a picture postcard with all of the Victorian Cottages leading to Lake Wickaboag. This proposed action will be a 'A BROOKFI8ELD Massacre"

Your blogger is not a wingnut! I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Geography. I was educated by the best in the 1960s. Conservation of Our Natural Resources really rang my chimes.. I EARNED AN A because I cared.

Further, I was a National Park Ranger at Cape Cod - 1964. But down deep inside ,and as a boy, I CLIMBED TRESS on God's Little Acre. NB. Throughout the "Woods of My Youth," and working at The Brookfield Orchards, I observed what tree pruning was all about. Like a puppy's ears and tails, being nipped, tree pruning defines the beauty of a tree and future growth and definition.

Just coming back from Foster Hill... where we "defeated the Quaboag Indians in 1660", more than 40 maple trees stand as sentinals to our Plantation. These trees were planted in 1910. Yes, it takes 100 years or more for a tree to reach maturity (same with people! LOL). Arborists can take samples of growth rings. It all hinges on the amount of rain in a given year. No rain... stinted growth tinrees! Shade is perhaps the best benefit .. seasonally.. on deciduous trees. People plant trees for beauty and comfort. Many trees are bought at nurserys are with a burlap ball holding the route structure intact. LBJ came to my alma mater on February 14, 1964 and planted a symbolic tree.  I was there!

My favorite time of the year, here in New England is when the trees awaken from our winters and host a miraculous manifestation, but limited only for about ten days. Apple Blossom Time, with the "birds and the bees" congregating give us a rebirth.

Sure, trees are very important. Most homes in America are fashioned by a variety of specie. My Dream Home sports 7 different kinds of wood. But trees are decorative.
All mighty oaks were once acorns. Coniferous trees...pine, hemlock, cedar and others never shed their plumage... well, you know.. Birds and squirrels, in particular, nest in trees. A few folks eve collect bird nests and others have Nest Eggs.. It would be an egregious error to even think of getting carried away with a chainsaw! Never!

As far as new sidewalks go: Fine, work around the tree issue. NEVER! Citizens of West Brookfield must drive down Cottage Street and see the trees with a white paper stapled to to them. like the guillotine.. one fell swoop!  These  marked trees are the lifeline to a brighter tomorrow. To fell them to a chainsaw would be anathema. You do not have to be a Brain Surgeon to be a TREE SURGEON. Intelligent pruning of the marked trees and a little bit of common sense is all that is required
.
LOUDER.."NEVER!"

Come to the December Meeting.. I WILL BE THE LOUDMOUTH for the conservation and preseversation  of both The Cottages and trees on Cottage Street, West Brookfield!
