YANKEE DOODLE COHAN

The romance of war.

Patriotic music is good for your patriotic soul. George M. Cohan brought his incredible talents to the stage of the North Brookfield town hall in the late 1890s. Tap dancing and song entertained the townsfolks. They witnessed the man who would write OVER THERE and you're a Grand Old Flag and hundreds of other patriotic songs for Uncle Sam.

One hundred years later the name of Cohan is worldwide. I attended the Desert Storm Parade in 1991 in NYC and was amazed to hear the music of Cohan coming from rows of speakers on a bright sunny June day. Hey, why not? I'm patriotic.

George M. Cohan's music is generational. When I hear Chasee-Robert singing "You're A Grand Old Flag" to Pops I am honored the kid knows the score.
Last June Betty Gunderson Studio of Dance featured my granddaughters dancing to the tune.

Cohan came back to North Brookfield on July 10, 1934 to be master of ceremonies for the gala Connie Mack Day shindig. My young folks raved about this for decades. NBC Radio carried the program across the Land. One person heard the historic transmission while driving down a California highway!

Life goes on in this 21st Century and the music of George  M. Cohan remains immortal. Why not check out Mr. Cohan on You Tube? James Cagney and Yankee Doodle Dandy!
