I once worked with this AP Photographer at the 1964 World Series! I was a runner for Mr. Vathis in deep centerfield on the pavilion. His camera jammed and I had to run to the darkroom with camera in hand for repairs.
Of foremost importance was his res
ponse when I asked him "What was the most important photograph you ever took?" "I won the Pulitzer Price for my photo of Eisenhower and Kennedy at Camp David! I have an original print today!
Sadly, when I returned to the World Series in 1968 back in Saint Louis after a year in Vietnam, in looking up Paul Vathis, I got his cold shoulder. Thanks a lot, Paul.
