MY ALL-STAR GAME MEMORIES

Attending a MLB All-Star Game is much more than a 9 inning experience. Properly planned, the experience includes many options! Having attended 3 All-Star games  in Cincinnati, Toronto and Baltimore with sons Ben & Josh, we truly hit Grand Slam homeruns!

Obtaining tickets was never a problem as friend and brother, Dick Fuller steered me into the office of Dr. Arthur Pappas. My requests for tickets came in March of 1988, 1991 and 1993. In all cases I did my homework. In all cases it worked.

My initial quest came in buying a dozen Rawlings baseballs, new in the box. Then, as my sons began seeking autographs of select All-Stars upon arrival, their hunt began. From Darrell Strawberry to Mike Greenwell their successes were reasonably profound. Each autographed baseball was wrapped in the tissue paper and returned to the box then a Lucite ball holder.

Another secret in finding players is to inquire where the players are staying. What hotel? L'Hotel was the place in Toronto. Celeb players were everywhere. So were we! I even got to respond to a question posed by a Toronto radio station. Why more games? Because for a couple of years there were in fact two All Star Games!

You've gotta be "fired up" to experience the ambience of attending the festivities... and yes, bring your MasterCard! FanFest this year runs from July 13 through the 17th. All of baseball shines from the embroidery of team hat logos to fantastic displays of the Game.

Scalpers are native to all sporting events.. so be prepared.

The famed Home Run Derby reveals who the heavy-hitters really are. I recall Jose Canseco as being in that element of players.

Because this year's game is in DC.. expect the unexpected! It almost goes without saying President Donald Trump will throw out the first ball?! With a seating capacity of 41,339, the price of tickets will be very high, indeed. So what.

Washington, D.C will be abuzz with all of the anticipated happenings. As far as accommodations go, I'd grab a Holiday Inn or Red roof in the DC Suburbs. The DC Transit seems to be the only way to go... but then again.. not all baseball fans are rich. Exploit all of your possibilities  and most of all.. Enjoy the game. "Back, back, back!" From Field Level to Mezzanine Level to Gallery to Upper Gallery there's nothing like attending an All-Star Game.. nothing  except maybe a World Series Game or two or three!
LOL.
