HISTORIC BURIAL GROUNDS IN THE BROOKFIELDS

On this fine June morning I took time to reflect on our forebears. The best place to begin is atop Foster Hill, WB. The stone markers delineate different happenings way back to 1660! Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the grounds graced with picnic tables and boards of statements about our historic past.

The well at which Major Wilson was shot beckons tourists to travel once again. The windrow of stately maples fluttering in the gentle breezes are welcomed as always.

Down on Cottage Street, WB,  is the historic cemetery where Jedediah Foster and his wife are buried. Foster is attributed as the author of the Massachusetts Constitution... which , in turn, was purported as the model for the US Constitution. Grave markers of primitive stone tablets tell how some patriots lived to a ripe old age of 91!

Capt. John Potter, a friend of Honorable  George Washington, lived in North Brookfield. 2018 marks the 200 anniversary of his death! He is buried in NB in the center of town on Maple Street.

His stately mansion may be visited at the Big E. Why not plan on attending?

The cemeteries in Brookfield and East Brookfield have not yet been visited by me. Walnut Grove and Bell Hill of St. Josephs have been visited in recent times. All places tell of our past. Why not plan a visit?
