Each morning I change my music stations from Easy Listening to SOLID GOLD OLDIES! This one act defines my mood for each new day. As I love most kinds of music...from Johnny Cash to Beethoven and Country.. music is my life!
This Spectrum-
Charter Station is good as it tells a story in addition to playing music. Right now 'Dreamy Eyes' is being sung by Johnny Tillitson..1959!
'Commander Leach' taught Problems in Democracy in addition to being the school Principal. Mr. Leach used to crack his fingers as a warning of his presence. One particular problem in school was RICHARD B. JOHNSON..the "Firebug." Leach and Johnson collided at home plate. Brother Johnson tells of MDL giving him nuggies on his scalp more than once! This allegation was confirmed years later by ANDY LEACH the Painter.
Our school was tight in traditions from going to the Clark Tournament each winter to having Shammy DeLude umpire baseball games. Leach and DeLude were sluggers in their own right! They loved the game of baseball. Both Leach and DeLude told many taales about Connie Mack and I devoured every one of them.
It seems most boys at NBHS respected Mr. Leach. From playing baseball on the North Brookfield Common each summer to traveling to Boston to Braves Field and Fenway.. baseball and Mr. Leach were truly were one and the same.
RIP MDL..you gave us a special memory of our youth!
