I have made a living liquidating antiques. Ideally the provenance of each items reveals it potential worth. Period pieces are the most valuable. More than once have I discovered items of significant value from Civil War carte de vistes to documents dating back to the early 19th Century.
A critical aspect to my initial legal training as a claim representative came with the counsel of Stanley and Robert Milton of Worcester, MA These two lawyers personified the traits of straight-laced yankees with Harvard educations. They served as defense counsel for Aetna Casualty & Surety! Robert, too, was a stamp collector! Stanley retired to Cape Cod.
Also, the Yankee traits of President Calvin Coolidge and entrepreneur Frank Cooke are to be revered.
The Estate of President George H.W. Bush is given at $25 Million. The richest President was George Washington who owned slaves and land. The estate is valued of over $500 million dollars according to recent media releases.
I once was in the company of an elected official from Kennybunkport, ME. This person had a first hand experience in observing the furniture and furnishings of the Bush family. Their perceptions were "very basic."
In following Bush 41 on the campaign trail in 1992 I observed the president's shoes: L.L. Bean?
It seems Old Money assures the present generation of a continued middle-class lifestyle in times of monetary trouble. I recall President Bush referring to the Atlantic Storm of 1991 which wiped out family traditions. "It cost a lots of money" to repair their sea wall. I once sent Bush a note recognizing the Walker Point property as' one of the finest on the East Coast! He loved my praises.
Old money knows how to play the games of life. Many times they hire lawyers who specialize in estate planning.
I like the Yankees for what they are: Humble, honest and polite. President Bush had these qualities!
