OUR MIRACLE ELECTRIC GRID - 2017

While serving in Vietnam 50 years ago, Vung Tau was served by one big military generator. When it was "lights out" the whole coastal village went "black." Here in the Brookfields we experienced a two hour plus black-out just now.For many of us, from our microwaves to refrigerators to electric heat - nothing.

I have not lost power like this  in a long, long time. Thoughts of my parents being without heat for something like 5 days in May of 1977 prompted them to convert to wood heat. Dad loved it. "Burning wood fascinates me, Bob." I just love the aroma yielded by ash!

But today, in the great world we live in, prompts me to realize how wonderful Tesla and Edison's electrical creations are..AC-DC as the music goes.

I think most homes have 200 ampere services. No more round glass fuses. Circuit breakers reign supreme.

The grid of the world is exponentially a miracle. From heat to refrigeration to entertainment, kerosene smells! I think of the noisome smell emitted from the Florence kitchen range. Space heaters were lethal weapons of mass destruction.

Loss of power for a couple of hours will be good for Honda Generators don't you think? But I would give my left arm for the right to burn wood. Pyromania you know!

But the kicker is Old Sol...the sunshine! There are millions of solar fields sprouting across Planet Earth. Solar is a compelling argument when it comes right down to it. Just think a if we were without power for two days...or two weeks. No thanks! "Gentlemen start your engines."

$4.61 A DAY.... electricity is our miracle drug!
