SENATOR BARRY GOLDWATER

The 1964 presidential campaign came to Saint Louis and Bob Potvin! I lived on campus in the thick of the campaign and was 3 feet from Barry Goldwater!! My story, however, is of a response I received from Mr. Goldwater regarding the US involvement in Vietnam.


My letter was pointed. Goldwater was a Reserve General and had a military mindset. He wrote: "I'LL TELL YOU ONE BIG THING..WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER GOTTEN INVOLVED IN VIETNAM"..


Nothing could have been more to the point. I sold his autograph "BARRY" and never forgot his message. The world never forgot the little girl counting down towards a nuclear holocaust. To this date Goldwater is remembered. All The Way With LBJ!
