On this murky and muggy Wednesday I sojourned almost 40 miles to the other side of Worcester County to North Grafton. With the aid of my GPS I came to the Willard Clock Museum. Historically, the antique home had the welcome mat out for me.is Sara and Patrick made me feel at home in every regard.
This property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the array of Willard-made clocks gives me goosebumps. Four Willards plied their clock making trade beginning in 1766 Benjamin, Simon, Ephraim and Aaron were America's premier clockmakers according to the Willard flyer.
This museum hosts over 70 Willard clocks and is the largest in the world. But it is more than antique clocks. This antique home is chucked full of American antiques and artifacts. It is American history personified.
Grafton kids in the third grade are given a free admission. It would make sense if all 3rd graders in New England be given a view of the Willard House! Inspiration can come at a young age. American heritage can affect eternity by a visit. But you don'ty have to be young to learn about horology! I was a boy in North Brookfield in the 1940s learning about clocks and watches.
Exquisite ambience best describes the name "Willard." Give them a call..508-839-3500 or visit them on the Web..www.willardhouse.org if you have time on your hands.
