Tuesday's New York Times always has interesting articles I enjoy sharing with you, my readers. Today it's no difference.
The first article entitled "Treating Exercise Like a Snack" points out "as little as 20 seconds of a brisk stair climbing , done several times a day, might be enough exercise to improve fitness, according to a pragmatic study of interval-style training."
When you think about it this idea in exercising makes sense. "Stair climbing emerged as one option." " In 2017, the scientists published the first relevant study. It showed that sedentary women who completed three 20-second bouts of climbing stairs, performed in one session with several minutes of rest between climbing, increased their fitness by about 12 percent after six weeks."
The next newsworthy article is about medication. "'27 pe3rcent of older adults take 10 or more pills a day!" I am one who takes 9 a day. My medical trail has been gradual over the years as I age. Certain attitudes see some folks refusing to take a pill! Sometimes I wonder if I'm taking too many? Dr. Greenberg tells me "Now we have the right recipe, Mr. Potvin."
The third article is about iPhones made in China. It's easy.. "the minimum wage is roughly $2.10 an hour." Heck, hamburger-flippers at fast food places may make onward to $15 an hour. But I have to believe our standard of living far surpasses China.
And then there's the Polar Vortex. I got some foam sealer for my porch today. Brace yourselves for phase 2 of the Montreal Express! Winter is hardly over. It is just that the reprieves we have had help keep our spirits reasonably high.
And then there is my "half-birthday" today. 76.5. February is around the corner. It will warm up enough to snow! Maybe a Valentine's Day blizzard?
And, oh yes, I organized my back room today! "Standing Tall!"
ROBERT LOUIS POTVIN
