This ornately carved buffalo head is a wooden match holder. It is, perhaps, from the Victorian Era. It was a gift from my next door neighbor -, Annie Wright, in the late 40s. I believe it is a unique antique! I have also seen the head of an Indian carved in a similar fashion.
In all of life we hold dear those things that give us happiness. Many times the values are small BUT sentiment is priceless. For whatever you hold in your lives I submit you make a listing of what's yours. You can earmark items for family & friends. As an auctioneer/appraiser I like to categorize things. If your collections are formidable do yourselves a favor: ORGANIZE. Do not play ostrich and bury your heads in the sand.
For whatever your pleasures are KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE! Collector/ antique markets are down in many cases. Surviving children don't necessarily have your tastes. Today's world has transformed antiques from being valuable to being "not wanted."
In my travels I have observed so much is in the marketplace. Dealers are gagging on inventories. The smart collector will address the obvious. I say get rid of things while you have control. If you don't it will be a mistake.
Price Guides are good but the downward spirals of demand tell me differently.
Research on E-bay can give you ideas of value. DO IT!
