Well, we've got all week to stock up on just about every thing. The Weather Channel seems to vary with NBC 10 and Pete Bouchard. Computer models vary and in reality it's anybody's guess. Stay tuned!
As the week progresses the hype will mount. Grocery stores and others just love this.
My Monday was good. Not only did I eat at the NB Senior Center I took the liberty to pour over the North Brookfield Journal $1.50/year.. which may be found in the Haston Free Public Library History room. At first I gleaned over some 1900 issues then leaped forward to newspapers of 100 years ago 1919. One news item was the death of Colonel Teddy Roosevelt who died in his sleep!Roosevelt's obituary was interesting as he was, perhaps, the most interesting president we have ever known. I think so.
I looked for automobile ads and found none. The Star Theater charged 17 cents for adults and 11 cents for children under 14.An Oakham dealer by the name of Crawford offered "carriages, buggies, whips, bicycles and sleighs. Crawford cook stoves were offered.. new and used.
The big news was the returning of troops from France and WW1. It was dubbed as "Greatest War in History. It seems America is constantly involved in some war around the globe! Another headline featured the Worcester Brigade Band and the South Barre Italian Band. WELCOME DAY WAS 9/1/1919. There exists a postcard featuring the Town Hall decked out in patriotic bunting.
I like reviewing these newspapers and they reveal how things really were.
Journalism had few photographs back then. Looking for something to do? Visit the History room!
