Now that my 2008 Honda is approaching 240,000 miles I reflect on owning the slowest car in the world - A 4 CYLINDER Mercedes 240-D.
I paid $21,500 for the car from Wagner Motors in the Fall of 1982
and drove it into the ground! For the moment, diesels were in vogue. Diesel fuel was $1.25 a gallon. The car served us well.
Mecum Auctions recently had a 1982 240-D which fetched $5,000 + 10%. It is nothing I would enjoy owning again but I will quote Frank Cooke's wisdom " Bobby, this car has been good to you!. 'Fix it and fix it again'. High mileage cars have virtue as I see it and in the long run I quote Marion Varney: "Your car is paying you dividends, Bob!"
