After 128 years, historic Bates Observatory, Bell Hill, NB has been razed! The lookout, now, is but one story high. Hon. Theodore C. Bates built this brick edifice which has weathered many the storm. Gradually it succumbed to the elements.
During WWII the observatory was used by boy scouts to spot air planes. Eventually it seems BO was abandoned. Public apathy led to its demise. My efforts to restore BO fell to no interest.
