MY GLIMPSE OF MARTIN LUTHER KING - 1964

Some memories remain in our consciousness. Such is the case of my seeing the Rev. Martin Luther King just 3 feet away as he left the Convocation of nearly 3,900 students in the West Pine Gym at Saint Louis University.

1964 was a Banner Year, my last year at college. I had endured the uncertainties of it all and earned my degree the following February. From President Johnson's February 14, 1964 visit to being a National Park Ranger at the Cape Cod National Seashore that summer the Fall back in Saint Louis was definitive. I worked 3 jobs, made a buck and went all the way with LBJ. But before the Election MLK seemed to be on his own campaign.

Photographs reveal King and a slew of nuns and priests in attendance. Religion seemed much different back then.

Doctor King received the Nobel Peace Prize two days after his St. Louis Visit. Little did I realize of his profound mark in U.S. History. With every step of the way in my life, King's Mission has become clearer and clearer: Racial Equality.

More impressional than King's words was what I observed as the crowd left: My custodian, Ed something was absolutely  beaming with inspiration and approval. Dr. King had reached my friend's soul.

I think it's fitting for America and the world to celebrate Martin Luther King's memory in this week of celebrations. Let's hope the Trump Inauguration is orderly.

Finally, a special thanks to MIKE LEE and Jeff and others for their unswerving loyalty in reading my blog. Happy New Year, guys!
