FLAT FEET, FLAT BUSTED, OR A FLAT-OUT LIE?

In 1959 a boyhood friend of mine enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Two weeks later he was back in the Brookfields. Why? "FLAT-FEET!" I never once questioned his allegation.

The anatomy of the foot is amazing when you think about it. I have two runners in my family and I twice ran.. once in preparing for the Marines and once in running for congress. The first time I sprained my ankle, the second I was defeated.

Flat feet is a provocative topic having our President-elect avoided conscription because of  flat feet. What I don't understand is how can a top performer at a military preparatory school be found not eligible for Uncle Sam & This Man's Army? Did daddy's wealth have anything to do with things?

According to Wikipedia " About 26 bones in the human foot provide structural support for our feet. Bones are made up of 1. seven tarsal  bones, five metatarsal bones and fourteen phalanges. The mechanics of the feet are truly amazing.

Here are some of the fancy names 1. Cuneiform 2. Navicular. 3. Talus 4. Calcaneus 5. Cuboid 6. Metatarsals (7) 9. Phalanges (14) .

In Vietnam I have shot x-rays of most bones of the body....but never have I zapped flat feet!
