MOON ROCKS

There were 2,415 samples weighing 8,339.87 lbs. collected during the six Apollo landing missions. Apollo 11 1969 47.51 lbs. Apollo 12 1969 75.62 lbs. Apollo 14 1971 94.35  lbs.  Apollo  15 1971 71 169.10 lbs. Apollo 16 , 1972 209.89 lbs. Apollo 17 243.40 lbs.

The Apollo moon rocks were collected using a variety of tools including hammers, rakes, scoops, tongs and core bags. Moon rocks collected during the course of lunar exploration are considered priceless. Stolen moon rocks were recovered. US president Nixon gave presentation samples of Moon rock brought back by Apollo11 as gifts to 135 countries and 50 states.

Many of the presentation Moon rocks are now unaccounted for, haven been stolen or lost.

Mineral compositions include high titanium, low titanium, very low titanium.

To think we were successful in bringing back moon rocks is amazing to me. Three minerals were discovered on the Moon. These include Armalcolite named for the three astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission.. Armstrong, Aldren and Collins, tranquillityite and pyroxferrite,

The above information comes from a digested story appearing in Wikipedia.

Armstrong, Conrad, &Aldrin

As a private aside, I was successful in obtaining Neil Armstrong's autograph on this photo about 1991.
