RACHAEL CARSON, MY HERO

It was in the Spring of my long life I was introduced to the philosophies of Rachael Carson. In the Spring of 1963 I learned of an earlier Spring in Saint Louis: March. Forest Park and girlfriends did not distract me from the loudness of Ms. Carson's message..pesticides are killing life on our earth!

That Fall it was back to the Midwest ..only now I was enrolled in a course in Geography: "CONSERVATION OF OUR NATURAL RESOURCES." I liked the professor, Dr. Eugene Wilhelm, and his entire messages. No longer was it OK to see roadsides sprayed in my hometown with DDT to kill Japanese knotweed  and others. Kennedy's Secretary of the Interior, Stuart L. Udall, also wrote a book entitled "The Quiet Crisis"..I took the secretary's message to heart.

I was beginning to understand what nature was all about. Several years later I served in Vietnam and further understood about AGENT ORANGE!

Rachael Carson's message went viral and still is today.

Tonight's 2 hour program on the life and times of Rachael Carson deserved 5 stars. It would be wonderful for my kids and grandkids to see.

I have a new appreciation for the oceans and the birds and the trees....and yes, our lives are phenomenal. Don't abuse it!
