CHINA OR FRENCH INDOCHINA - TAKE YOUR PICK

The country of China is as big as Indochina (Vietnam) is small. I have been to both if you want to call HONG KONG  China, which it  is  today.

In America we seem to be much too nationalistic if you ask me...but wait. Containers (those big, big, trailers-of-the sea) all started in 1956. Today there are more containers arriving in the Port of Boston than you can shake a stick at. I don't think two people in one hundred look at the MADE IN CHINA label with disdain. Jolly for the Chinese and the accountants.

"MADE IN VIETNAM" is more and more commonplace. I don't mind this half as much as I have seen Vietnam in 1968 and 1998. Cheap labor gives people jobs at the expense of American jobs. So what. I don't think this fact can be reversed!

Paul Langevin, Late of Phoenix and North Brookfield, gave me tremendous insights into the 'containerization'  of antiques. Langevin served in the Merchant Marine in the Atlantic in WWII. The duties of the "Merchant of North Brookfield' set him on his affluent ways of life. He brought European antiques to the North Brookfield Town Hall. I know this as I worked for "Langy" including being in the T.H. in a blizzard in 1969! The creaking of the mansard roofing was like being in Richard Henry Dana's ship brig Pilgrim!

The romance of the sea is not for me, a Landlubber! I want to get there! I have flown the Pacific 3 times in 1967, 1990 and 1998. Without a doubt Cathay Pacific is the only way to "sail the ocean blue!" Today, you can fly from Logan Airport to Hong Kong and beyond.. for nothing!

Yes, being a Vietnam veteran has it's virtues I guess. My affection for France and the Vietnamese has coupled a romance, maybe few soldiers experienced. Fifty-years ago is nothing. It is never too late to start living and getting a life. Parlez vous Francais? LOL

I welcome life in all of its splendors. No longer do I dwell on the media-mess. Not for me. Mozart and Beethoven are more soothing than a Six-Pack and a Pack of Ciga-butts. I am dead serious. By working at getting a life you come to realize the beauties of sunrises and sunsets and cloud formations.I let others toil for wealth! China or Indochina.. take your pick!

Dream on Ladies & Gentlemen!

For Me!  Like 'em?
