A BRUTAL WEATHER-WISE AND OTHERWISE

This morning's  temperature read 3 above zero with more bone-chilling  winds. I was so occupied with the weather I forgot to watch Joel Osteen! AS we get closer to Christmas Josh reminded me of my Tuesday Christmas Eve at Birch Hill at 11:00 AM.  All of my presents sit here on my desk waiting to be delivered. Seems nothing was in the cards for a victory.. Patriots and Seton Hall against the Georgetown Hoyas. For a moment I thought The Hall was going to win.. but  they didn't 61-60. I am delinquent in filling my pill Cady so tomorrow's duty is at hand. Right now the temperature reads 7 degrees above zero! More of the same I guess.

BONE-CHILLING SATURDAY

My Bone-Chilling Saturday saw me spend lots of money at Hannaford NB..$152.14! I stocked up on Prevagen for $39.99. The cold has been penetrating as I went about my business. Spoke with Chase Robert and Josh  and enjoyed watching Big East Colle Basketball. On inquiry I learned Seton Hall will be playing Georgetown tomorrow at 7:00 PM. No other details. I am so cold it'll be Long Johns and an early to bed  for me. Right now the temperature is only 17 degrees! Brr!

TRIPLE MURDER AT SNOWBALL FARM NORTH BROOKFIELD JANUARY 19, 1900

It is important for me to keep the legacy of the Triple Murder alive. You may log onto my blog of Saturday of January 23, 2016 for an in-depth story of the murder of a man's wife and two kids. You may research this incredible event in the North Brookfield history and see what I mean. It is a story worth repeating in the 21st Century. Today we were greeted with some snow and it seemed to thwart Josh's bonfire and greeting. As promised I wore my Vietnam coat and didn't stay for long. It was the first Friday I missed attending the Legion.. forever? Tomorrow I'll travel to Hannaford NB with a big list of food and supplies. Winter is here so enjoy it!

MY THURSDAY OF ANTICIPATION

Today was a day of anticipation. This day leads up to quite what's coming: A party on Birch Hill tomorrow at 3:30PM.The weather forecast of some snow. My note states "Dress warmly!" Today I reminded Josh of putting up Christmas lights atop the porch of the Poodle. Earlier I received a phone call from "Johnson" acknowledging the card and monetary gift. Dick sounded relieved to be back home in Leominster. My weight came in at 157lbs.Decent. Earlier in the day I took care of a bag of "clean" laundry. It is cold again with the current  reading at 29 degrees. Tomorrow I'll wear my Vietnam flight jacket and keep warm. See you then!

A RAINY ENDING WITH THE QUABAUG GIRLS VICTORY

This Wednesday was off to a slow start. After my routines of going to the bank, Josh called me inviting to attend the Quaboag Girls to see Maddie perform. It was a romp against Southbridge girls.  The Cougars scored over 50 points and Southbridge was held to single digits. An old friend, Angie Manzaro joined us at mid-court. Angi was a familiar face as she used to work at Country Corner bringing me my daily newspapers! Upon leaving we were greeted with raindrops and a 37 degree reading .I was chilled until I returned to the Poodle and put on my Long-Johns. Now I'm comfortable. Tomorrow I'll weigh myself.

CHASE ROBERT VISITS POPS!

The highlight of my Tuesday came with a visit from Chase Robert. We chatted about many topics including "Iceland" and a review of his accomplishments at Bentley University. We also spoke of my running for Congress in 2,000. He took my "dirty" laundry for Josh to handle.  It was a rewarding time to review Chase's accomplishments and where will he go from here. Earlier, Josh spoke about his Friday at Birch Hill at 3:30PM to celebrate the change of time. My note reads "Dress Warmly!" Early in the day I addressed Christmas cards for Chase, Lily, Maddie & Evie. Tomorrow I'll do banking. Thanks for visiting, Chase!

MY "CHANGE IN PLANS" MONDAY

There was a dusting of snow when I got up. My routine made me get through the morning with obtaining The New York Times and the USA Today. I was going to get my mail but decided to try this afternoon and I did! Nothing in particular I waited for a call from Josh at 4:13 PM and he called discussing what to do? After due deliberation it was decided to scrap my visit to NBSB and see Maddie. Chase Robert was in Ware getting a haircut then go to NBHS to watch Maddie perform. I don't have any results. The whole week isn't encouraging weatherwise. Right now it is 39 degrees and fog. Enough already!

SOUND OF MUSIC SUNDAY

I came across The Sound of Music by accident. First, my Sunday began with obtaining The New York Times for $6.00 then off to Hannaford NB for food and other goodies. My total purchase came to $85.63.A highlight was a bag of Wonderful Pistachios which I enjoyed for lunch! I like diversifying my purchases. Did watch the Patriots fall. Enough already. Josh-The-Barber came equipped to give me my monthly clip. He also advised of a girl's basketball game at NBHS tomorrow. Will call him at 4:15 for the details. Josh advised my bed sheets need washing so I plan on employing Chase Robert for the detail at Warren Laundry! My Sunday was good and complete.

MY COLLEGE BASKETBALL SATURDAY

The morning low temperature was recorded by Josh as seven above. I had nine above. The anticipation of Seton Hall prevailing over Rutgers came in the last second with a loss of the Hall.. 66-63. The next game saw Tennessee prevailing over Illinois by three! Tonight UCONN defeats GONZAGA 77-71. My bottom line is there are going to be winners and losers! Tomorrow it'll be Joel Osteen at 10:00 AM .It is fun to watch college basketball on a very cold December day.

FRIDAY-THE-13TH

My Friday was "bone-chilling!" I went about my business of delivering my gift of candy to our dedicated employees of the Post Office 01585  along with obtaining my mail.  Of interest was a Christmas Card and gift from Sister Jan. My Spectrum bill of $246.44 which I paid. Fast-forward to the American Legion where I obtained a Cheeseburger Deluxe and Ginger Ale on ice. Brr. Once more I enjoyed the company of Jeff Nickerson and Carol Slater, Upon returning home I received a call from Josh who I thought was somewhere in NYC. We chatted briefly and we spoke about Wreaths Across America which will be tomorrow at Noon. Neither of us intend to attend. In college basketball, it will be Seton Hall versus Rutgers. Maybe on television? The penetrating cold will last all weekend. Right now it is 21 degrees above zero. Brr!

RAINY WEDNESDAY

My Wednesday was preempted  by rains measuring 1.38 inches in my rain gauge. Son Josh came by to pick up my "dirty" laundry sporting a new hooded sweatshirt with SETON HALL UNIVERSITY on the front. It has meaning as this is Josh's alma mater. He volunteered taking me to upgrade my wardrobe! Next in my Wednesday came a call from Steve Magnante. It was good hearing from Steve as he sounded upbeat and has hopes of finding a new place to live. Steve doesn't have any plans on returning to BARRETT-JACKSON Auto Auctions. Weatherwise tomorrow will see a drop in temperatures with winds gusting to 40mph and more. I'll weigh myself and fill 8 days worth of pills. Despite my Rainy Wednesday my day was complete!

HANNAFORD OPINION

I frequent Hannaford NB about twice a week. It is a ritual for me to go about my shopping. Each visit sees me getting help in loading my purchases into my Honda. My purchases amounted to $82.37. Today I decided to give my opinion with the hopes of  winning $500 in groceries! I am loyal to Hannaford North Brookfield and my hat is in the ring! Wish me luck. This Tuesday saw me do banking. It was a bleak day. I follow the news to closely. Am getting ready to mail my Christmas cards. Rain and wind is on the way

ROY ORBISON

My last video in my collection features Roy Orbison in "Black & White Night." Copyrighted in 1999 Roy sings many familiar tunes to include "Only The Lonely," 'Oh, Pretty Women," "In Dreams" and 15 more. Bruce Springsteen accompanied Roy to make watching this even more interesting.  The weather changed to rain with .56 inches recorded. Did speak with Sister Jan for over ten minutes getting caught up in family affairs. We both admitted addressing Christmas Cards. My list continues to grow.  Connected with Josh. Don't know if I'll go to Hannaford NB tomorrow? The rainy weather is good and the snow is melting away

TRANSITIONAL SUNDAY IN DECEMBER

My Sunday was full of anticipations. It sems West Brookfield was ready to celebrate! Country Corner offered me free cookies as I obtained the Sunday New York Times. Joel Osteen's message was inspirational. Next came the Seton Hall - Oklahoma game which was disappointing from the beginning. The Hall just have it together with a loss of 85-72. The Prudential Center's seats were empty a the Hall's ship sunk! At mid-day it was my desire to see how the community was responding. The town was ready and in amazing the Salem Cross Inn's parking lot was as big with cars as I've seen. Maybe Chase Robert was working?  Son Ben called early in the afternoon as Savannah is completing in Charlton. Weather looks transitional with moderating temperatures and rain in the forecast. Watch the snow go!

REMEMBERING PEARL HARBOR 12-7-1941

It was on our way back from Australia did we stay in Hawaii to pay homage to the Pearl Harbor Memorial  and the Battle Ship Arizona. The year was 1991.Today the memory is crisp of that visit. My Saturday was caring car of business with getting gas for the Honda and obtaining the mail at the USPS. My national grid  bill was $156.67 . Tomorrow men's Seton Hall basketball game will be at Noon versus Oklahoma State at The Prudential Center. Don't know if it will be televised? At 5:00 PM tomorrow, the West Brookfield Christmas tree will be lit. Thanks to Jimmy Rust for stringing the lights.  I may be able to see the illuminated tree from the Poodle?  My Saturday is complete!

RAY CONNIFF "WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS"

Since 1962 this Christmas Classic has been my favorite. Each Christmas season I tune into listening Conniff to set the tone.  This year is no different. "Try it you'll like it!" Arte Johnson. After getting my newspapers I headed for Hannaford NB for groceries and supplies totaling $96.91. I met two sisters Elizabeth and her younger sis who helped me unload groceries to my Honda. It was very cold all around.  Next, I received a call from my classmate, Bill Gross, from Vancouver, WA. We chatted for some 21 minutes getting caught up on out lives. It is wonderful having Bill in my court since 1962! The Legion was good obtaining their address for Christmas Cards. I intend sending cards to all who serve me throughout the year! Want one? Send me one! Box 11, 01585. Tomorrow morning I will get my mail and fill up my gasoline on the Honda. I discovered in chatting with Jeff Nickerson and Bill Mansfield coverage on the Allante' sitting in the garage covered up isn't necessary. Thanks guys!

SNOW-BOUND BY John Greenleaf Whittier 1807-1892

Today's snow of 6 inches in West Brookfield was inspirational by reviewing Whittier's "Snow-Bound."  Josh came by early and shoveled my driveway to be bested by Ronnie M. who later plowed it. My cherished of Whittier's "Snow-Bound" was donated to The American Antiquarian Society two years ago for safe-keeping. I filled 7 days of  pills in my Cady. A complete list of food and supplies has been completed for a visit to Hannaford NB tomorrow then off to the Legion for supper. A cold night and windy now at 29 degrees.

ROCKEFELLER CHRISTMAS

It's snowing in the West Brookfield as I've enjoyed watching the entertainment at Rockefeller Center. It truly has put me in the Holiday Spirit!

GIVING TUESDAY

It was another cold morning in the Brookfield's with a reading of 13 degrees above zero. There's all kind of hype in the snow we are going to get. Before I go any further I would like to  remember the 25th Anniversary of the 6 Worcester fire fighters who lost their lives. Spectrum Channel 1 covered the memorial ceremony live. Earlier I watched & listened to a 1990 video on Connie Mack Day, July 10, 1934. along with footage on a parade of that genre. Josh called around four sporting a head cold. I enjoyed a great night's rest last night and have hopes of repeating it now!

MY ALAN JACKSON MONDAY

The coldest day of the new season with readings at 14 degrees above zero. The week's weather will be as cold as today's with snow expected late Wednesday. I tried to get in the Christmas spirit and found the Music of Alan Jackson just what I was looking for,, not Christmas but the amazing music of Alan Jackson! His life is truly rewarding with the BIG hit "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning?) There are so many songs we are all familiar with: "Don't Rock The Jukebox,"  'Mercury Blues," and many, many more. A curious fact is Jackson owns an Amphicar..with only 3.878 built. This is the type of amphibious vehicles I piloted across the Mississippi River in the Spring of l963 at Saint Louis! Despite the cold, my Alan Jackson Monday was rewarding.

DECEMBER SUNDAY IN THE BROOKFIELDS

My Sunday  had a cold beginning with with readings in the low 20s . Having changed my 2 calendars It was getting the Sunday New York Times then off to Hannaford NB where I stocked up in necessities. My cost was about $60.00. Next I returned to watched New England Patriots lose in a game I thought they were going to win! Seems the Pats are without luck of the Irish. Then it was more baseball with Ken Burns. Today's feature was with the Red Sox winning the World Series. Josh & Miley came by giving me relief for my back. Tomorrow I'll get updated balances from the bank.

MY BASEBALL SATURDAY

It was a coating of snow as I greeted this cold Saturday. I decided to get my mail and the New York Times. My Arbella bill for 2 cars is $988.50. The Allante' is covered and sleeping until Spring arrives. With a plethora of college football games on tv I decided it would be Ken Burn's Baseball for the day. I like watching his historical approach to the game. Watching this program reinforces my historic knowledge of MLB. Son Josh came by about with "clean" laundry which it put away. I will travel to Hannaford NB for necessary supplies after watching Joel Osteen at 10:00 AM.  My visits of my blog "No Turkey Thanksgiving" dazzle me at 234! Cold weather ahead.

BLACK FRIDAY

My Black Friday was blue! Nothing to do. I mused over going to the Legion again this week and Josh & I decided it wasn't in the cards. The main attraction of this day was watching Ken's Burns documentary on Baseball. I liked this approach as it covered very early history of the game. Naturally I have a keen love of East Brookfield's Connie Mack. Seton Hall's men's basketball game will be tomorrow noon against Monmouth at the Prudential Center which I plan on watching. Yesterday's blog visits shows more than 150 without any explanation?  I noticed two cars driving by with Christmas trees on their roof! I guess we now adjust to forthcoming Holiday of Christmas from on. Ho, Ho, Ho!

NO TURKEY THANKSGIVING

My Thanksgiving was different. It all started with a visit by Josh and the family dog Miley. Afterwards I filled 8 days worth pills in my Cady. I weighed in at 158 lbs. a steady reading. Son Ben called wishing me a Happy Thanksgiving. The highlight of my Turkey Day came in the discovery of a Johnny Cash statue measuring 8 feet tall at the U.S. Capitol. Most readers know I am a devout Cash fan having experiences such as leaving a U.S. flag at his home in Hendersonville. Josh gave me an enormous  Johnny Cash Song Book and a T Shirt and Bumper Sticker " Cash for President!"  Cash was 61 when he died. I recall seeing his obituary on the front page of the N Y Times. The history of Johnny Cash is legendary and my favorite Cash song is "Ring of Fire!"... and tomorrow will be Black Friday. I have no needs for sure. Maybe the sun will return after a rainy Thanksgiving Day?

This Wednesday was the coldest of the Fall season registering 22 degrees and a very heavy frost. This didn't stop me by doing my banking then off to Hannaford NB where I spent $81.00 for groceries. I delighted in buying some attractive strawberries for my treat at lunch. College basketball games were watched then traveling to the Legion. Josh agreed to meet me there were we enjoyed the company of Jeff Nickerson. Jeff always makes our visit special with his card tricks and the Dusty Springfield comments. Tomorrow will be a different Thanksgiving Day for me. I plan on watching the Macy Thanksgiving Parade. Josh agreed to visit me and son Ben stated he'll call me. Cold weather continues and maybe, just maybe a little snow! It was in 1981 we had an amazing snow storm in North Brookfield. Nothing like that in the cards! My Tuesday saw me listening to Dusty Springfield. It was in Sydney, Australia while on my R&R From Vietnam I took an Australian Lasse, Diana Brooks to see Dusty sing. I listen to her songs on You Tube to keep my memories alive all these years. In College basketball it was Colorado defeating UCONN. Josh came by to pick up my "dirty" laundry and trash. He advised no special plans for Thanksgiving. I will muse on this as tomorrow will be extremely busy for me with banking then to Hannaford NB for groceries. Josh suggested for me to go to the Legion which I plan on going. The weather has changed with readings now 34 degrees. My Tuesday was fun and fulfilling!

My mind was made up to "take care of business!" Did get the mail and experienced another dead battery on the Honda as I was ready to leave. Tried calling Josh and my smart phone didn't work! A lady came by and diagnosed corrosion on the terminals then I jiggled the post and it worked. My "dirty" laundry was lined up for Josh along with a bag of trash. After getting things done I settled on watching UCONN lose to Memphis 99-97 in overtime. Did enjoy some popcorn and Fanta for supper. Looking back my Monday was good.

It was a special day for my grandson Chase Robert! He called me and came over to alert me of a Netflix special on the Boston Red Sox. I watched it for more than 2 hours before driving to Birch Hill for a birthday celebration. It seems half of the town was there to greet Chase.. even Miley. Josh & Heidi were in charge I kind of laid back observing family friends and relatives. Josh gave me a pair of Christmas flannels which I'll wear with pride. The weather seems to be in transitional with Sunday, maybe, colder? I plan on watching Joel Osteen at 10:00 and the Patriots later on. Happy Birthday Chase Robert!

OUR SETON HALL MEN'S VICTORY IN OVERTIME

It was a victory for the Pirates of Seton Hall  Men's Basketball in Overtime 69-66.Josh came by and sat thru watching much of the game . Both of us didn't think the Pirates would win... and they did in Overtime! This was a rainy day in the Brookfields. I recorded .80 of an inch of rain in my rain collector. My purchases at Hannaford NB totaled over $100. This afternoon saw me watching another video of Barbara Streisand  maybe 30 years ago? Tomorrow will commemorate an important day in the US history.. the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas.11-22-1963. Everyone remembers exactly where they were. I was at St. Louis University between classes and some guy came running down the street "Some nut just killed the President!" Tomorrow will see me go to the Legion at about 4:00 PM. BARBRA STREISAND

I have had a Barbra Streisand collection for more than 10 years and today was the day to shine. Barbra Streisand is amazing with songs. My favorite is "Happy Days Are Here Again." This happens to be her signature song! She has many hits  like "You Don't Bring Me Flowers Any More."  Ms. Streisand is a singer, actress, Song Writer, Producer, and Director! Like her songs? TUESDAY DISCOVERIES

In going through my top drawer of my bureau was full of  discoveries. I was looking for photos and there were plenty. More importantly was a letter dated from the White House May 17, 2018 from President Donald J. Trump! Another communication was from Trump & his wife Malania for Christmas greetings. Then there was  a communication from George W. Bush thanking me for sympathies of his late father, George H.W. Bush. My biggest finding is a letter from David McCullough dated October 4, 2019 thanking me for a copy of "One Lucky Soldier" I sent him. Last was an envelope from JEOPARDY! with the Address of 10202 West Washington Boulevard, Culver City, California 90232-3195. All of the above reveals mails are answered. HISTORIC MONDAY

I reinforce my understanding of understanding history by reviewing all of  my past. Every now and then I take the time to review my 10 family albums of where we traveled from covering the New Hampshire Primary to visiting Plains, Georgia and talking to Jimmy Carter's cousin! Pictures of where we've been tells me activities with sons Ben and Josh are a great way to share the past with them. Also, tonight I reviewed another video of The Roosevelts. Franklin D. Roosevelt was one COUAGEOUS man. Nothing kept FDR back, polio and all. He was elected to 4 Terms as president in a time when two terms was the max. Wife Eleanor, too, was a courageous First Lady. Check this series out, The Roosevelts" is your homework for this "Historic Monday"!

I keep playing videos to beat the November darkness! During daylight Josh came by and mowed my lawn for the last time of the season. He also took the Honda to Country Corner for air in my deflating tires. I must take the car to George's Tire Place in Warren for correcting the problem. Tonight I decided to watch The Roosevelts. Teddy Roosevelt was my kind of a President. Didn't know he was a victim of an attempted assassination later in life.! The videos are now entering FDR'S life in detail which I will watch tomorrow. Will go to Hannaford NB tomorrow for some moth balls. Josh was successful in getting the Allante's top connected. Thanks. Will watch Joel Osteen in the AM. Fine weather continues.

SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY

I am a trailblazer in my family as neither parent went to college! My journey was in bits and pieces having first graduated from Worcester Junior College in 1962. I was looking for a university that offered Meteorology and Saint Louis University was my choice. Back then air travel wasn't big so I chose to take a Greyhound from Worcester. The trip took 33 hours to Saint Louis. I was a transfer student residing in Clemens Hall. I first met Father Robert E. Bosken SJ who had an interest in old coins. He was my confessor and friend. Adjusting to college life in the big city of Saint Louis was difficult and I wanted to return to the Brookfields! My grades were "Average Attainment" and it took me time to learn about the City. I undertook jobs as mail clerk and worked in a package store on Olive Street. I began to learn about St. Louis taking bus rides about town. This historic city offered me much. In a postcard sent to mother dated 1-10 99 I wrote "The City, University and all the surrounds never looked better. St. Louis is sophisticated , historical, booming and attractive. a big change from 1962!" My sons Ben and Josh returned to St. Louis for 3 games in the 1987 World Series. We enjoyed the City, the Gate Way Arch and all surrounds.  I pride myself in enduring my 5 semesters at SLU with a "Bachelor of Science .Conferred Feb 7, 1965."  Meet Me In St. Louis! And yes.. I worked at the World Series in 1964. Everything about the city, the University, the Mississippi River which I drove an Amphicar across! Talk about courage. Yes, I'm a Billiken and proud of it!

VETERANS DAY BREAKFAST - WEST BROOKFIELD

Today is special for me! I was awakened at 7:00 AM in response in a message I left saying I would like being placed on the list to attend the breakfast. When I arrived the Senior Center was abuzzed with Veterans and their families and friends. It was amazing to see the response. My meal was brief: Orange juice, 2 pieces of bacon and 2 glasses of orange juice. I was joined by Denise McCarthy and friend. She has a daughter who is a COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR! We reminisced about North Brookfield. I gave out some "Bob Potvin Blog" cards to friends hoping I'll get some help from the Registry in retrieving  my BLOG license plate on a Honda that was stolen from my garage. It is rewarding to see all veterans and their family and friends joining out in celebration. Friends Jeff Nickerson and Carol Slater came by to wish me well. The skies are clearing on a Monday I'll never forget. Thank you veterans and friends!

SUNDAY OF FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL

This Sunday began with  putting away all my "clean" laundry then reading the Sunday New York Times.  I like skimming the headlines to keep up with world happens. I was all geared up for watching the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears. The Pats won 19-3 for a change! College basketball is my renewed interest. Tomorrow I'll attend the Veterans Day Breakfast at the WB Senior Center, Son Josh sends his regrets. I will see many  Veterans from all walks of life. Happy Veterans Day!

SATURDAY OF BASKETBALL & FOOTBALL

I latched onto the Seton Hall-Fordham at Halftime and was disappointed to see The Hall fall to a buzzer-beater by Fordham 57-56. The rest of the afternoon saw me watch Indiana University versus Michigan. Indiana has many memories for me as I did go to IU for my training at the Certified Auctioneer's Institute. I phoned Robert H. Glass, Sr.to get into the program which evolved into the largest U.S. coin auction in my life. For 6 weeks I drove to Wilimantic, CT cataloging an incredible inventory of US. coins and mailed the inventory to ALL coin dealers in New England. The response was overwhelming and I earned a commission of $10,000! It pays to ask!

GOLD IN YOUR ATTIC

A North Brookfield man whom you all know found an oil painting in his attic. After inspection and due diligence I took the painting to the Worcester Art Museum for inspection. The inspection affirmed my hunch. I was right. The painting was sold at auction by me for more than $5,000! What do you have in your attic that may be worth $5,000 or more?  Time to clean out and maybe you have "Gold In Your Attic?"

WINDY FRIDAY..VETERANS DAY at WBES

My Friday has been long as well as fulfilling. My purchases at Hannaford NB totaled $79.57. Josh picked me up to go to the Elementary School where we were seated in the front row. Saw Steve Reardon and wife Bonnie before the program started. Steve is a weather-watcher for a Boston TV channel and I do show interest in his reports. The school's program entitled "2024 Veterans Day Ceremony" was heartfelt with grades from 1-6 learning what "public speaking" is all about. After a reprieve  it was for me to go to the Legion where I enjoyed two Hot Dogs, a Ginger Ale and the company of Carol Slater, Jeff Nickerson and once again, son Josh. This group is never short of banter, jokes and politics. I came home in darkness and watched my usual programs of CBS News, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. more to blog about

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AFTERMATH

It's interesting to see how each Parties are squirming today. I have been watching the many aspects of a new administration preparing for cabinet members. I will wait to list their names. I did write a letter to President-Elect Trump for an autographed photograph! When I was in Washington I learned the President gets 10,000 letters a day. But I also learned all letters are read. It may take some time for my request to be honored and I am confident my request will be honored. Spoke with sister Jan for 15 minutes and Bill Gross briefly. Bill is suffering with food poisoning. Tomorrow Josh and I will attend the Veterans Day Ceremony at the West Brookfield Elementary School at 1:15 PM. Before that it will a trip to Hannaford NB for food. Later in the day I'll go to the Legion. My Friday looks to be full.

A DAY OF RECOVERY

This Wednesday was one of  recovering from all the news of President-Elect Trump's victory. I didn't stay up late nor did I get up early to see the results. I am satisfied with the results so now we can move forward with hope things will get brighter. The Stock Market set a record high. On the old coin front I received a "Collector's List of U.S. Coins." from Littleton Coin Company which will give me an idea on the prices of all coins minted in the U.S. I am still interested in dealing in U.S. coins! My one and only Merit Badge in Boy Scouts was that of Coin Collecting. What have you? Josh & I will be attending Veterans day ceremony at the WBES on Friday afternoon.

THE POWER OF BEING AN INCUMBENT FOR OFFICE

In the year 2000 I had made up my mind to run for congress! I was living in Wyoming when I had the chance to pick Dick Cheney and his mind. He states when I was running there wasn't any incumbent running. I came back to the Brookfield's and began the process by getting signatures. I needed 2,000 which were from each town in the district. I ran as an Independent. Once I received the signatures I had to file then with the secretary of state. The support of North Brookfield and West Brookfield was  great. North Brookfield gave me 544 votes.. West Brookfield 444. In total I received 5,157 or 2% of total votes cast. Looking back my campaign was with a Chevrolet Truck with signs "Vote Potvin for Congress." I didn't go around pleading my case.  Running for any office you must appeal to the electorate with a message. I encourage any citizen contemplating running for office.. run when when a vacancy occurs. You will not be victorious in running against the incumbent. I have watched tonight election returns and in every case the Incumbent prevails! Do your homework, ask questions, get to know your territory and build a team.

JOHNSON IS HOME!

After a three month stay in the hospital "Johnson" is home. Dick posted his sentiments and I picked up on it and called him at his home in Leominster. It was a meaningful conversation to say the least. He sounded relieved to be home and has a soulmate, William Tin, will give him comfort. I am sending "Johnson" a crisp Hundred Dollar bill to ease his pain! I also enclosed a copy of my blog dating back 2007 telling how we renewed meeting him. "A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter!" Who could be so lucky to have Richard B. Johnson as a friend. We go way back to 1957 and it is wonderful to know my Abominable Firebug lives!

HOW TO BEAT THE DARK DAYS AHEAD

Beating the dark days ahead is easy! I have found just today, with the heavy frost this morning finding a purpose is easy. Don't be influenced by all of the political ads. Today I watched Joel Osteen who had a great  quote: "Peace is Power!" I mused over this suggestion all day .After watching the Patriot's defeat 20-17 in Overtime I began to think how can I beat the blues? Easy!  First I dug out an amazing book entitled : "ATLAS OF THE HUMAN BODY". This book covers the many systems that we are all familiar with. For over an hour I found medical illustrations of the many systems we all have. Next I watched Bill O'Riley's  review of the worst and best presidents. Abraham Lincoln came in as #1 and old LBJ was one of the worst! Then it was onto the CW channel featuring President Bill Clinton's life. I enjoyed watching this program as I attended the Inauguration in DC for 5 days. The secret of beating the blues is to KEEP BUSY and don't be bothered by all of the hype being thrown at us if we allow it to pollute our minds! Have an hobbies?  Coins, Stamps, Clocks, Watches , Autographs whatever.. Tomorrow the Seton Hall Pirates kick off their first basketball game in the Big East. My Monday will be busy as I have a list of food for Hannaford NB. Do some soul searching as it will reveal your talents!

MY SATURDAY OF ONE PRESIDENT: HERBERT HOOVER

This is a transitional for me.. adjusting to the November darkness and circumvention all the hype of the forthcoming election. I took the challenge by  learning more about: Herbert Hoover. Hoover had an interesting life as the first president born west of the Mississippi. He was "global" having traveled to Australia and European countries. Hoover defeated the first Catholic to run for office in 1928 Albert E. Smith. The stock market crash in 1929 made it easy for Franklin D. Roosevelt to defeat Hoover in 1932. Josh came by unexpectedly  giving me a report on Evie's game in Boston. The November darkness prevails as does the very cold night. Don't forget to "Fall Behind!"

LA DODGERS CELEBRATION PARADE

The highlight of my November 1 Friday was watching the LA Dodger's celebration parade .From LA it was something else. Josh came by with "clean" laundry and agreed to visit me at the Legion and he did. While at the Legion I enjoyed two hotdogs and a Ginger Ale on ice. Jeff Nickerson and Carol Slater visited making our visit meaningful. Carol gave me an A for the way I parked my Allante'! This may be the last time I take it out? The weather cooled off and we can say "Good Night" to Daylight Savings Time! We all must adjust to tiny days of daylight! Gold was at $2770.50.

THE DAY AFTER

After a late night and the euphoria of the Dodgers winning the World Series, my Halloween was quiet. I did go to Hannaford NB  for Trick or Treat candy but did not have anybody come by for the treat. My banking was done early planning for Josh to come by for my monthly rent at the Poodle. Left a message but he never came by! Chase Robert called telling me of his on-phone interview with Mass Mutual. All went well. I plan on going to the Legion around 4:00 PM.  Maybe I'll see Josh there? And yes, the LA Dodgers are World Series champions!

This Tuesday was different. The day was cloudy and somewhat dismal. I waited all day. No events meaningful other than waiting for the Yankees and LA. The Yanks have exploded with home runs and lead 11-4 in the eight. Not good for LA! It's late and so I'll call it a day!

DODGERS DEFEAT YANKEES 4-2

Today began with the temperatures in the mid-twenties. I went about my business shopping at Hannaford NB and spent $98+ without trying.  Knowing that the World Series wasn't until 8:08 PM  the challenge was to keep busy and that I did. I have a U.S. Currency Auction that has amazing illustrations of ALL money printed in the US. While in Junior College i was entrusted with some Gold Backs and other coins which I sold to the late Johnny Lyons. Funny thing this ended up on the wall in Bill's Place! Chase Robert called me earlier acknowledging receipt of materials on Ernst & Young and Mass Mutual  and a cash donation. Tonight I was positioned to watch the Yankee-Dodgers game 3. The Yankees were defeated 4-2.

PATRIOT SUNDAY

It was relaxing seeing the Patriots prevail over the NY Jets! I watched the whole game learning more about the game of football. The final score was 25-22. Once again it was  a beautiful Sunday. The Trump Rally at Madison Square Garden has lasted more than 3 hours with a slew of celebrities .In the usual style of Trump he slams VP Harris and others. The World Series resumes in 24 hours from The Big Apple. I will have a front row seat cheering for the Yankees! Tomorrow I'll go to Hannaford NB for food & supplies. Did speak with Ben and Josh briefly. My Sunday was interesting.

I LOVE NEW YORK!

I love New York and I really men it! Today was a discovery for me. I came across a  9 page memoir dated 1/1/2000 recounting my visit to the Big Apple for a Y2K celebration. It is amazing all of the details which I wrote about. With the encouragement of Ben and Josh I attended a Billy Joel concert to celebrate the coming of Y2K.Also, I obtained cancellations of 1/1/2000. And to think I found my 9 page memoir which I'll share with Ben & Josh. I also learned how to print a picture of LBJ's visit to Saint Louis University on 2/14 1963.Tonight the New York Yankees lost to the LA Dodgers 4-2. For  a minute I thought the Yanks would pull it off having the bases loaded in the 9th.They didn't and now the World Series go to New York-Dodgers ahead 2-0.I still love New York!

INTERESTING FRIDAY

My Friday was interesting. After doing some food shopping at Hannaford NB I took all day to get psyched up for the World Series in LA. There was all kinds of info both in the news and in the New York Times. At 4:00 I drove the Allante' to the Legion where Josh joined me. It was enjoyable joining us was Jeff Nickerson. My meal was 2 hot dogs and a Ginger Ale on ice. Josh placed my "clean" laundry in my automobile which I removed upon returning home .I put the clean clothes away waiting for the game to begin. Right now it is 2-1 in favor of the NY Yankees in the bottom of the seventh. I'm interested in seeing who will win!

There's an old saying "There's power in a made-up mind." Today my mind was made up and with the encouragement of Son Josh I voted! There is benefit in going to the WB Town Hall not having to cope with big lines, inclement weather and all the rest. So now, I can get on with other challenges like watching the World Series tomorrow night at this time! Did chat with Chase Robert seeing if he received my mail. Not yet. Tomorrow will be routine going to Hannaford NB then to the Legion. The weather today was partly cloudy. So, if your mind is made-up why not vote?!

HUMP DAY DELIGHT

My Wednesday saw me going to North Brookfield to the car wash.  For twelve bucks  the Honda sparkles. The brilliant sunshine saw me go back for more. I sat out for 30 minutes and enjoyed ever minute of it. Three days in a row am I getting an "October Tan?" The passing of Hernando Valenzuela is making news and I look forward to reading his obituary in tomorrow's newspapers. I think I had a Hernando experience in calling his room in California? "HELLO!" My "dirty laundry" is ready to be picked up by Josh. .maybe tomorrow? The political scene is getting worse! I watch with great interest all interviews on CNBC! The days are creeping up for the World Series. Two days and counting. Yankees in five!

SUNSHINE TUESDAY

The brilliant sunshine continues on this Tuesday! I sat outside for about 30 minutes and enjoyed every minute of it! josh encouraged me to take the "Red Rocket" Allante' as the days are limited for such a pleasure and I did. Drove up Wigwam Road into New Braintree then turned around with Country Corner on my mind. The car took $20 worth of gas. Tomorrow I'll take the Honda to NB for a car wash. Did watch all of the Celtics hype and ring presentations. Beautiful then I watched some of the game against the NY Nicks where the Celtics led by 20 points. It's an entre for  the basketball season. After the World Series I'll be ready for the Seton Hall Pirates. Gold is at $2.757.

MY 'NO BASEBALL' MONDAY

It was different not having a game to watch! This day was routine for me doing banking then off to Hannaford NB for food and supplies totaling over $115. The day was another of brilliant sunshine and Josh suggested for me to sit outside for 20 minutes for some Vitamin D. I did for 25 minutes then deliberated if I should go to The Clam Box? I drove my coveted Allante' like it was still Summer. My choice of food was Sea Scallops and a Diet Pepsi.. a big meal indeed. Did put my air conditioner on one last time. Tried to reach "Johnson" to no avail. The price of gold continues to climb at $2749. Now we await the World Series on Friday. Sons Ben & Josh take the LA Dodgers and I'll go with The Bronx Bombers! I like the powerful bats of Judge & Stanton. Go Yankees!!

The Los Angeles Dodgers were more amazing than the New York Mets. This Sunday saw me going to Bentley University with Josh & Evie to to a fraternity party with Chase Robert. It was a delightful time meeting some of Chase Robert's friends. Before heading for Waltham Josh "lowered my ears." The Mets are facing elimination with the score LA 10 -4  Tomorrow I'll replenish my food supply at Hannaford NB and get balances at my bank.  The final score 10 runs 11 hits for LA  5 runs for the Mets.

Chase Robert called me to chat. He tells of being interviewed Ernst & Young and will have one with Mass General. I did my discovery on Wikipedia, printed the results and will mail them to Chase with a cash donation. Josh came by and encouraged me to watch the game between the Yankees and Guardians which is now tied in the eight 2-2. Also, he agreed to give me a haircut tomorrow at 11:00. ANOTHER BASEBALL FRIDAY

This Friday was beautiful after frost-on-the-pumpkin. I did watch "Years of Lightening days of drum" again getting fore insights into who JFK really was. He was so many things and the world appreciated his charm, intelligence and humor. The Legion was good as usual. Jeff Nickerson and Carol Slater were my usual visitors and I enjoyed two hot dogs and a Ginger Ale on ice. The Allante' was driven in one of the last times this Fall. I hurried back to the Poodle to watch the Mets versus Dodgers. It was a slugfest with the Mets winning 12-6. Tonight the Yankees are leading the Guardians 6-2 in the sixth. Not good for the Guardians! The incredible weather goes on and on and on! Enjoy it!

We had another morning of frost.  After getting the newspapers it was putting away my "clean" laundry left in the breezeway by Josh.  I watched Olivia Newton-John live at the Sydney Opera House before  baseball  from Cleveland. The favored Yankees lost to the Guardians in ten innings with a walk-off homerun. The victory adds some flavor to the contest. Tonight the Mets are trailing the Dodgers 5-3 in the 5th inning. ETHEL KENNEDY FUNERAL

It's amazing  Robert & Ethel Kennedy had 11 children! Today I watch with great interest the funeral of Ethel Kennedy. Three presidents were in attendance: Biden, Obama & Clinton. Nancy Pelosi sat next to Clinton. The testimonies were touching. I began to think. .did I  ever come intact with Mrs. Kennedy? I did at the fund raiser for Maurio Cuomo at Carly Simon's Martha  Vineyard home. Mrs. Kennedy signed autographs along with Roger Clinton and others. The experience was PRICELESS! Tonight's baseball  witnessed the Mets trailing LA 4-0 in the seventh. I'm tired after a long day. How about you?

FIRST FROST TUESDAY

This has been the coldest day of Fall. Josh advised "a heavy frost" on his vehicle. My frost came in the mail with  the huge bill from the VA for medications. Then it was my Spectrum bill which seems to go up each month. A renewal for my Allante' registration from the RMV. I paid all of these bills and get on with it Josh stopped by picking up my "dirty" laundry and two bags of trash. Tonight the Yankees a re playing the Guardians 3-0 in the fourth. DISAPPOINTING SUNDAY

We all have "High Hopes" as the song goes but the Patriots didn't have high hopes in their defeat 41-21. I continue to watch The Roosevelts on PBS. Today I was inspired watching the life of Theodore Roosevelt. TR was truly amazing and yes, very wealthy, and he traveled to the Dakotas. I red his biography while living in Laramie, Wyoming. Tonight, it was high hopes as the NY Mets challenged the LA Dodgers. The Mets were not amazing, for sure,  trailing the Dodgers 6-0 in the Eighth Inning. Seems like the Red Sox! Tomorrow will be another game between the Mets and LA.  I must o to Hannaford NB for food & supplies. Maybe the skies will clear up?

A PRESIDENTIAL SATURDAY

In the absence of any MLB Playoffs I chose to continue learning about President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on PBS. What impressed my was his stamina and longevity. FDR brought our country out of a Depression and instituted so many social programs that challenged Americans to "Pull their own bootstraps." FDR was elected for four terms and had a charm second to none. By contrast LBJ, too, had many social programs BUT the Vietnam War delt him the final blow. I liked LBJ for he came to my college after John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.On February 14, he came to St. Louis University . I got all excited and was the first to observe all that went on. The crowd was over 10,000 and my friends even saw me on TV! Yes, Presidential visits are surreal and in this Election Year Chase Robert and Lily P may have the same experience I did in 1964?  Tomorrow I shall watch Joel Osteen at 10:00 and the Mets versus the Dodgers at 8:15.

A FRIDAY OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS & INSPIRATION

My Friday has been one of  accomplishments! It was filling my pill cady with 8 days of medication. Next it was beginning to pare down my excessive closet of clothes and shoes. My traditional shoes are a thing of the past. Included is a pair of black Cowboy boots size 10-1/2. I intend to have all of these donated to Planet Aid. My sport coats are too large as I have reduced my weigh to 161.4 pounds as of yesterday. Now comes the inspiration. Ken Burns has a series on PBS "The Roosevelts."  I watched how Franklin D. Roosevelt overcame polio to being a 4 term President! My late father said many times "FDR was for the workingman." His Fireside Chats got into every home in America and then some. Want to Learn more about U S History? Become a student and develop 'A Sense of History!' In MLB Playoffs the Dodgers are leading the  Padres after four, 1-0. GRAND SLAM METS

As an experienced blogger I try to find inspiration in my story. Last night I witnessed Elvis's grand daughter telling of her story involving her mother Pricilla Presley's  problems. I watched the interview with Oprah Winfrey inspiring  which led me to watch Elvis' ALOHA FROM HAWAII via Satellite in 1973. Watching this video this morning gave me insight who Elvis really was: a talented human being. Tonight in watching the Amazing New York Mets prevail over the Phillies, too, was inspiring. Son Josh proudly told me he ordered a Mets ball cap. Today was indeed a Grand Slam all the way around! Tomorrow I travel to the VA in Worcester for a visit to the dermatologist  and pharmacy Oh Yes, the obituary in the New York Times of Luis Tiant also was inspiring.  The secret is to look for inspiration in every thing you do!

MAGNIFICENT FOLIAGE IN THE BROOKFIELDS

With brilliant sunshine I chose to take the Allante' to Birch Hill but nobody was home! The thing that inspired me was the great colors of all trees. It moved me. Next I had placed a call to "Johnson" two days ago. Today, Richard called me from his "jail" being he is still in the hospital for a month. I reminisced with Dick about the good times in his yellow Hummer going up Coy Hill. "Johnson" would come to me house each Saturday to points unknown. He sounded reasonably well considering being infirmed for a month. In the Playoffs it was a different story with the Phillies defeating the Mets. Tonight San Diego is leading the Dodgers. The world loved JFK and will never be forgotten. If you are interested why not get a copy! In other matters  tomorrow will see 4 games in the MLB Playoffs. Sons Ben and Josh are betting on the Mets and Phillies. I haven't yet decided who I'll bet on. The Legion was visited by me enjoying a cheeseburger deluxe and Ginger Ale.  This was truly an amazing Monday in baseball. I enjoyed watching the Amazing Mets defeat the Braves in the first game of a doubleheader only to see the Mets fall to the Braves in the second game! Tomorrow we'll see these two teams advance. As Son Ben says 'I live for this!'.. and I do too!!. My Monday was defined by doing banking and paying Josh my monthly rent here at the Poodle. The day saw partly cloudy skies and moderate temperatures. That's all folks!

A DAY OF VICTORIES AND DEFEATS

My Sunday saw me stocking up on food from Hannaford NB. Spent $70 and was satisfied with what I got. Josh came by earlier saying he's return later. Never happen. The Sox defeated the Rays 3-1. The ceremony of Joe Consiglione was meaningful. Many retired Sox managers and players greeted Joe including Mayor Michelle Wu. Then I switched to the Patriots- San Francisco football game. Not good. The Pats lost 30-13.Tomorrow I'll go to the bank for balances  and money to pay Josh rent money. Say good bye to September!

MY SATURDAY OF INSPIRATION

First I watched a review of Bush 43. It inspired me to review Bush 43 as my pen-pal. I sent him a Holy Cross postcard and he wrote back telling of his recalled playing baseball on Fitton Field. My story was featured on Linn's Stamp Monthly.. "My Presidential Success!"  Next I reviewed a blog entitled "Going On Your Own" Dated January 22, 2009. The content of this blog reviewing how I quit "Mother Aetna" and wanted to be my own boss. "Nobody quits a Class thirty=two job" I was told. "I did was my retort!" Transformation to being my own boss took courage.  It took time and eventually we moved back to West Brookfield. Son's Ben and Josh were 6 and 4 at the time. The boys played " stick ball". I founded Blair House Antiques and was on my way. It seems everything was gong my way because I had the necessary courage to make the move. In restoring the Blair House neighbor  Ray Bennett  said 'Bob, you accomplished the impossible!" Old "Flexible" was my main man. Today, the Blair House has never looked better! This Saturday has truly been one of inspiration!

QUIET FRIDAY

Nothing about this Friday was exciting! The day began with bright sunshine and eventually became hazy. I drove the Allante' to the Legion where I found things quiet. It was the cheeseburger deluxe and a Ginger Ale. Earlier I took Josh to pick up Lilly's VW. The Red Sox fell to the Rays 2-1. Maybe tomorrow will prove to be more exciting? Glad to see my Connie Mack entry is getting attention!

CONNIE MACK

Today's closing of the Oakland Athletics Stadium evokes my memories of where the name Athletics is derived from: Connie Mack! Major League cannot forget a man who was born in East Brookfield, Mass and who won World Series in 1910, 1911, 1913, 1929 and 1930.    I  was in college at St. Louis University when my history professor got all excited when I told him where I was from :Connie Mack country. "Mack was famous for his $100,000 infield: Eddie Collins, Home Run Baker, Jack Barry and Stuffy McInnis. Fast forward to July 10, 1934  Connie Mack Day was featured with his Athletics playing on the North Brookfield Common. George M. Cohan was Master of Ceremony. The game was broadcast nationally. Mack wrote Billings M. Stevens " Through you as president  of the North Brookfield Chamber of Commerce.. "I shall always count July 10, 1934 as one of the jewels of my life." Today you can see "Connie Mack Drive" in a road sign in East Brookfield. With the Play Offs and World Series coming up let us pause and reflect of the name Connie Mack which is truly immortal!

A DIFFERENT WEDNESDAY

Everything has changed  for this day. I did do food shopping at Hannaford NB to the tune of $66. The anticipation of  another Sox victory just didn't happen. The Blue Jays dominated the game winning 6-1. Earlier in the day I did some house keeping and  further researched one Karen S. Lynch, CEO of CVS Karen has a 4 hour interview called "Taking Up Space."  I would like to see it as Karen S. Lynch is reputed by Fortune's #1 Most Powerful Woman in Business and she hails from Ware, Mass!. I have a letter from Karen when she was President of Aetna! That's how I'll end my Wednesday.

TUESDAY SOX IN 10

It seems the Red Sox are playing their best in the last week of the season. This victory came in the tenth inning in a "nail-biter." Toronto led early in the game and the Red Sox came alive at last. Nobody could predict victory until the last Toronto out. I'm glad I stayed up as it leaves a pleasant taste in my mouth! Earlier in the day Josh needed a ride back from Spencer where he dropped off Lily's VW for a oil leak. Tomorrow I'll go to Hannaford NB for food. I'm glad I stayed up for the Tuesday Sox in 10 victory! How about you?

MONDAY FUNDAY

This Monday was one of  organizing my office space. Did find some interesting photos of Josh dating back to 1986. It's interesting to see his smile! I went about my business and came across of  a video "Good Morning, Vietnam" ! It has been maybe 5-10 years since I last watched this which evokes my many memories of my time in Vietnam. Robin Williams is at his best. Tonight's Red Sox vs the Blue Jays was all Boston with a victory for the Sox of 4-1. The Sox had 10 walks! It was a good way to end my Monday Funday!

SUNDAY FUNDAY

It was my happiness all around! Many things were anticipated like a visit from Lily P. It was a meaningful  visit. I gave Lily some insights of US currency and presented her copies of $1,000, $500 and $100 dollar bills. Gave Lily my old camera She will go to Bromfield Camera in Boston to check if it's of any value?  Called Chase Robert and will send him a cash incentive.  Savannah Hope in Belmont, NC received her first report card with staggering grades of 97 & 98! She too will receive a cash reward from me.  Now the Red Sox were at their best winning both games against the Twins - 8-1 & 9-3. And yes, Josh mowed my lawn. So this Sunday was fun with all of our accomplishments!

NO RED SOX SATURDAY

This Saturday was different. Spectrum technician came at 8:00 AM to give me a new remote. My old one fell on the floor. He replaced my modem and other things so now I am up to speed. The Red Sox' game was postponed until Sunday. I did watch two of my favorites.. Olivia Newton-John at the Sydney Opera House and another favorite "Years of Lightening.. Days of Drums" featuring the life of JFK. Josh came by in late afternoon for a visit. Hadn't seen Josh since last Monday. We laughed then he took my trash and "dirty " laundry.. Tomorrow I'll watch Joel Osteen at 10:00 AM. I'll retire earlier tonight hoping tomorrow will be a brighter day!

LONG FRIDAY

My Friday was back to normal. Did do some food shopping at Hannaford NB. My charge was to review Ward Hollow for the third time. When I returned the disc to Jeff Nickerson I said an A+! There's so much history about North Brookfield, MA it's not to be taken lightly! Spoke with Chase Robert and Lily P who will be home for the weekend. As I was ready to go to the Legion Carol Slader called advising her husband Brad was in Harrington Hospital. No further details. Did enjoy a cheeseburger deluxe and a Ginger Ale on ice. The Red Sox and Twins are tied 1-1in the Tenth Inning. Thy day is done!

MIDNIGHT ON THE MISSISSIPPI

This is about an incredible adventure I experienced as a student in college. In the Spring OF 1963 I was visiting a smoke shop right off campus of St. Louis University. Lou Marcus was the owner and my friend. On this particular night a man drove up the store entry on Olive Street and yelled to Lou for some cigarettes. I was there and took them to Doctor Sauer. Lou knew him as he was a professor in the SLU Medical School. I was intrigued with the car he was driving. The little car was a boat! I showed further interest in the machine and was invited to drive the car. I immediately drove over the the SLU campus two blocks away. I ran into Clemens Hall dorm and grabbed my friend Frank Tencza. I assured him he "would enjoy the ride" First we drove to Gaslight Square. This was a recreated village of pubs and Dixieland bands in Old St. Louis. Kind of like a Riverboat scene in movies.  Doctor Sauer was pitching down the Scotch whiskeys while Frank and I drank Cokes. I wasn't satisfied in just driving the Amphicar around the City of St. Louis., so I asked "How does this go in water? "Now the Mississippi River is about 2 miles of the East of the college campus. Doctor exclaimed "Drive it down to the River!" I did. Now the Mississippi River  is about two miles east of the college campus. Today the famed Gateway Arch decorates the riverfront. I daringly drove the car/boat to river's edge. I pushed the lever forward and I could hear the twin propellors whirling! The next thing I  knew I was on the Mississippi River! Incredible! The three of us were without safety devices. Tencza was to my right and Dr. Sauer was "out cold" in the back seat. I "fogged" the throttle and began heading for the shores across the river in Illinois! The rushing waters didn't bother me. I kept feeling the base of the doors for leaking water. When I drove towards the middle of the Mississippi  Rivera bright search light panned my path. I thought "I've had it!" I kept moving East until I hit the shore. Unlike the levee of St. Louis with red bricks, I landed in Mississippi mud! Four wheels were buried up to the hubs Now what? I thought quick and retrieved some driftwood from the shore. Frank and I built up the wheels with wood and were able the little boat/car to higher grounds. I found a road that leads towards the bridge to St. Louis. In the meantime Dr. Sauer had the big idea he wanted to drive the car and grabbed the wheel. I stopped the car and the commotion attracted neighbors. They called the cops. When the East St. Louis  police arrived they said " Dr. Sauer what are you doing here?" Long story short, the good Dr. Sauer paid our cab fare back to campus. We got home about 4:00 AM.! Today, Amphicars  are true collectibles  with less than 4,000 made .It was a German import to the USA. LBJ had one on his ranch. I saw one performing on the waters of Lake Lashaway. It's the only commercial amphibious made and I had the "pleasure" of driving one across the Mississippi River! VERITAS!

MY FULL WEDNESDAY

This has been  a 14 hour day for me. The main focus this morning was getting my Honda serviced at Parson's Automotive to the tune of $49.85. The power steering problem was diagnosed and will cost $700 to repair. No problem. "Fix it and fix it again" was the advice of Frank Cooke on repairing my Mercedes 240-D which I drove 242,000 miles! Baseball continues to hold my interest with the Red Sox winning 2-1 over the Rays. Did receive a phone call from my college mate, Bill Gross in Vancouver, WA. It is comforting to hold Bill's friendship since 1962. The weather has changed and will not improve for days I will recap my experience of crossing the Mississippi River in an Amphicar in the days ahead. Time to wrap up my full Wednesday!

ANOTHER COMPLEX TUESDAY

This Tuesday saw lots of activity. After going through my rituals I headed to Hannaford NB where I stocked up on necessities and spent $100! While there I ran into sister Jan. It's always a pleasure to visit my sister!. I attempted to reach Karen Lynch at CVS to no avail. Instead I continue to review the Wikipedia  story on AETNA. It is amazing on what I am learning about the behemoth in the industry. My 13 years gives me two legs up. My training in the Home Office Sales Course in addition to being a training instructor for new field employees from across the country allows me to refresh my memory of days gone by. Tonight the Red Sox lost 8-3 to Tampa Bay but I have discovered a   MLB RACE TO THE PENNANT. goes all over the place giving me a reality that there's more to baseball than Boston! Tomorrow I take my Honda to Parsons Auto in East Brookfield. All in all My Tuesday was complete!

A NEW APPROACH

My approach in adjusting to the SAD. which  means going to be  later! Instead of a 8:30-9:00 it will be after 9:30. Adjusting will be easy as the Pennant Race will bring the leaders to my HDTV! This Monday saw lots of activities. I had Josh on my mind for a lift  to the VA for a blood draw. He did show up in Lily P's VW which brought a smile to both of us. The blood draw was usual along with a urine analysis. The results should come in a few days. My latest kick is researching my former employer: AETNA.As I receive a small check each month in retirement My job now is to connect with Karen Lynch, CEO of CVS. I'll call for a copy of her book. Earlier, before Josh's arrival I filled all pills in the CADY. Let's see how all adjustments for a better night's sleep works? And how are you sleeping?!

ANOTHER ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION

It seems a quiet September Sunday has turned sour with the latest attempted assassination on Donald Trump. Discovery will reveal more of the same and will be banner headlines for the days to come. The news here in New England is the dual loses of The Patriots and the Red Sox. I am looking forward to the Playoffs and the World Series. Too early to pick the teams. Son Josh and Chase Robert have gone to Fenway Park for a concert. Pearl Jam? I will get a full report from Josh who will be bringing me to the VA for a blood draw in the morning. Beautiful weather continues!

A GOOD AND REWARDING SEPTEMBER SATURDAY

I call this a "transitional" Saturday. Wasn't distracted by all of the activities around West Brookfield. This day was perfect. The Boston Red Sox left their mark at Yankee Stadium winning a game they deserved the Yankees 7-1. Maybe the Sox can repeat their winning ways tomorrow? Josh came by removing the trash and applying medication on my back. He promised mowing my lawn tomorrow. Tonight I decided to re-watch WARD HOLLOW. As an 82 year old type I appreciate all that went into the production. Jeff Nickerson is to be commended in all of the research that went into preserving North Brookfield's history for future generations. Go to the Haston Library in North Brookfield and get a copy for your review!

WARD HOLLOW - THE STORY OF N. BROOKFIELD - A REVEW

Jeff Nickerson loaned me his copy of Ward Hollow.. In reviewing this 90 minute documentary it is refreshing to watch the history of my hometown: North Brookfield, MA. Copies of this documentary may be gotten at the Haston Free Public Library, NB for a review. My visit to the Legion as interesting. Over-late a haddock meal not eating only half! Live & learn!  my spiffy red Cadillac Allante' and got great reviews from Betsy! Thanks.  As for the Red Sox - Yankee game  the Sox lost in ! Incredible weather continues for activities on the Town Common tomorrow.

DISAPPOINTING LOSS TO YANKEES 2-1

My whole day was spent in anticipation of the Sox-Yankee game. The game went into the 10th Inning with the ghost runner. Boston couldn't and the Yankees did! I enjoyed in sitting in the sun for 30 minutes. Didn't take the Allante' out Did watch the Cardinals play ball in St. Louis. My memories of my time in St. Louis from 1962 - 1965 persist. Tomorrow will be Friday the 13th and I plan on going to the Legion. No word from Josh. Despite the Sox loss my Thursday was good!

COMPLEX 9-11

My 9-11-2024 was eclipsed by the Red Sox defeating the Orioles 5-3 in 10 Innings. It was a day of accomplishments. I began researching ;"Stamps . a nation's calling card" with The American Philatelic Research Library Must be a member to obtain this. After sitting out in the blazing sun for 30 minutes it was my charge to get the Cadillac Allante' washed. Did so in Warren at Moe's. With a clean car I did attend the 9-11 ceremony at the Legion. Jeff Nickerson led the program.. impressive indeed. My 9-11-2024 was one to remember!

This Tuesday was too beautiful with clear blue skies and a happy feeling. My ay was seen sitting in the sunshine then driving to The Clam Box in my red Cadillac Allante'. No Lily P!. My meal was different. Sea scallops , fries and a diet Pepsi. I'm researching the history of First Man On The Moon stamp. Trying to resurrect "Stamps, a nation's calling card". Years ago I featured a video showing how this particular stamp was made! I do have an unused sheet of this stamp, framed, in my office! My favorite! Tomorrow I'll contact The American Philatelic Library  for more info. Red Sox lost to the Orioles 5-3.I don't like Donald Trump and  his negative attitude! Give it up Donald!

SUNSHINE SUNDAY

You couldn't ask for a better Sunday in September! My Sunday saw me travel to Hannaford NB for groceries. My list failed me as I didn't get  Bounty quicker picker-uppers! I discovered it when I got home. Spent $80 and my latest "kick" is peanut butter. In researching I found applesauce and cottage cheese good are great  for part of my breakfast for my morning diet along with Ensure+ and hard salami. Not to mention the Red Sox collapse in the 9th Inning. Spoke with sons Ben & Josh. The anticipation is focused on Tuesday's Presidential Debate. Who will be telling the truth?

NO ROLLS ROYCE FOR ME!

Son Josh took an offensive approach in his "Don't buy the car!" He had inspected the RR at 7:00 AM more than I had 3 hours later. The RR appears to be about a 1985 model.. nothing I would be interested in. On to the next thing. I did watch a video on "Teddy Ballgame" Ted Williams which I found interesting. Ted Williams was the last batter to have an average of .406.Tonight the Red Sox are walking all over the White Sox 7-5win! Tomorrow I will watch Joel Osteen at 10:00 AM then do some food shopping at Hannaford NB. We had rain tonight.

My enthusiasm on RR go back to 1961 when I traveled with one Frank Cooke to Sam Adelman's junk yard in NY. From this one experience saw me working on RR's in Cooke's garage in North Brookfield. I re-joined the Rolls-Royce Owner's Club and Enthusiasts several years age. I must satisfy my curiosity!

Coming back home it was Bush's Homestyle Beans for supper with Ensure Plus as my drink. . My weight this morning was 159.4 lbs. Spoke with Josh later in the day. Looks like the Legion tomorrow. Next it was getting the mail then came back to find a nice note from Josh. next it was taking inventory of my VA medications. I renewed three or four then called Que at the pharmacy for help. Did sit out in the hot September sunshine for 30 minutes. I decided to return to The Clam Box and found everything was in my favor. It was whole belly clams, French fries and a Diet Pepsi. Tonight the Sox are trailing the Mets 2-1 in the seventh inning. The Mets pitcher has struck out 11 Sox batters on his 29th birthday! Later in the day I decided to travel to The Clam Box in Brookfield and was disappointed not to find a parking place for me and my Allante'. I will return tomorrow when the holiday rush lets up. The Mets are leading the Sox 4-1 Not good! Bello just doesn't have it tonight. Tomorrow will be back to normal. I will vote, get my mail and do some banking. SEPTEMBER

September has many meanings for me. I begin by listening to Jimmy Durante as he sings the song But September is when the leaves begin to turn. Six weeks from now Fall will have even more of a meaning .Baseball on this day saw the Yankees get decimated by the St. Louis Cardinals 14-7. The Red Sox, too, fell to the Detroit Tigers 4-1.Is the baseball season over? Tonight I reviewed the video about the Life of John F. Kennedy. JOSHUA BYRON POTVIN

Contentment best describes the day Josh was born. A father has memories of his children. In Josh's case we both remember more. Josh was a special child from birth. He didn't learn to sleep for months and slow when. he came to talking he was a heart-grabber. Our neighbors in Windsor, CT fell in love with Josh. Adrienne Greenough  and "Walter Mahoney-Next door " both older folks without kids loved Josh. Mrs. Greenough called Josh "My Boy." Mr. Mahoney was an  old coot with a runny nose witnessed  greeting me at the bus stop .Josh ran towards me saying 'DA DA as I lifted my little son high in the sky with love. Mr. Mahoney approved of this gesture saying "you know some think I'm crazy but when I saw you greet your son I know I'm not!" Josh met with approval of family. Family movies with Gram & Pop reveal  a tiny toddler with  bib tops demonstrating great industry in stacking firewood. Josh has been a worker from the get get-go. He demonstrated a talent in working with his hands, and yes, his mouth! I feel selfish when I praise Josh to my friends. I'm afraid they don't understand what I mean. My stories are many and I know Heidi, Chase Robert, Lily, Maddie and Evie are the greatest benefactors of Josh's love. Happy 50th  Birthday Josh and thanks a million! Love, Pops.

Josh & Lily came by and I had a chance to review my college experiences. I recommended going to the College bookstore for a job along with books. Tonight I watched the Democratic Convention with the highlight of President Clinton speaking with shaking hands. I noticed the absence of any flag pins. to demonstrate  his patriotism! Clinton & I go way back to his Inauguration! In all my day was good!

Another long Tuesday. The good news is the Sox won 6-5 against the Astros. This Tuesday was saw Son Josh come in to pick up my dirty laundry and trash. Both Obamas spoke at the DNC with meaning & purpose. It is inspiring to see the States giving their votes for VP Harris - The show goes on tomorrow. Stay tuned.

A VERY LONG MONDAY

My Monday was complete from doing shopping at Hannaford NB for food to doing banking. One thing worth commenting on is a Hallmark card Made in Vietnam! I have been watching the Democratic Convention from Chicago. Hillary Clinton's speech was moving and my memory of opposition of the Vietnam war with husband Bill remains. The Red Sox blew another  against Houston! The Bidens are next..

BASEBALL SUNDAY

It has been a rainy Sunday and the defeat of the Red Sox by the Orioles 4-2 isn't worth mentioning! The Sox had many opportunities but just didn't perfect a victory. Now it's onto Houston for three games. Tonight  it's watching the Little League game between the Tigers and Yankees - no score after 5. My biggest thrill of the day is researching THOMAS ALVA EDISON!  Edison us reputed as "The Benefactor of Mankind." Researching Edison on Wikipedia is giving me a command position in learning more about the man. If you want to learn more check out Wikipedia! Yes, there's more to life than baseball!

BUSY SATURDAY

This Saturday seemed to have everything in its place I searched for my copy of WARD HOLLOW The Story of North Brookfield, Massachusetts, a Tyler Nickerson film and only came up with the colorful wrapper! Will check with Jeff Nickerson for a copy. Hannaford NB saw me drop $118.15 to include a supply of Prevagen. While at Hannaford Chase Robert called and came by for a Saturday visit .Chase caught me up on things and untwisted my flag. Later in the day while I was riding around in my Allante' we met again honking our horns. I did drive up to Birch Hill checking things out. Lily P's VW as in the yard.  The Red Sox game was delayed for over an hour. .. 4th Inning no score. Sunday I'll watch Joel Osteen at 10. This Saturday truly was busy!

HOPEFUL RED SOX

Tonight's game in Baltimore reveals two things: the Red Sox know how to score runs.. It is 8-4 in the 4th inning. Anything gives in the remaining time. R. Devers got a home run . This Friday saw me enjoy my visit at the Legion. Both Jeff Nickerson and Carol Slater visited as I enjoyed my cheeseburger deluxe. Must go to Hannaford NB for food in the morning. My Friday was good but not that good!

MY TURNAROUND THURSDAY

This Thursday saw my day "turnaround!" It seems everything went my way. My weight came in at 162.4lbs. I did watch Afternoon Baseball then I decided to refill my Pill Cady for 8 days. Next I decided to get a refill for the Allante' which took $30 the most I've ever seen! Next I reviewed two important stories which I'll cover at a latter date. In Baltimore the Sox are trailing the Orioles 4-1 in the sixth inning. After last night's debacle against the Rangers I don't dwell on things! Yes, it was a turnaround Thursday for me and tomorrow is Friday where "good things happen!"

A WEDNESDAY TO FORGET!

The summary of this Wednesday comes in the disappointing loss by the Red Sox to the Texas Rangers.9-7.I can't recall such a loss as the season progresses.35,356 in attendance. My day was long seeing me putting away clean laundry I did watch a PBS special on the music of Franky Valle. before taking the Allante' for another spin. Stopping at Birch Hill I saw both Lily P and Chase Robert. I enjoyed Jolly Time popcorn and a Canada Dry. As I wrote, this was a Wednesday to forget!

STEVE MAGNANTE TAKES ME TO HOT DOG ANNIE'S!

My day has been huge and highlighted by Steve Magnante visiting me. We drove to Warren to "Allante' Heaven" to see only one Allante' survives! The remaining five or six are gone. Steve seems to be in good stead. Hot Dog Annie's where I enjoyed 2 hot dogs and Annie's famous root beer.  Earlier in the day I received bills for Spectrum -$246.50 and National Grid for $103.43 After sitting out in the sun for 30 minutes I decided to drive my Allante' for a spin landing at Josh's where I saw Chase Robert, Maddie and Miley. I picked up my clean laundry only to be bested by Josh's mowing my lawn. Just now the Red Sox lead the Rangers 6-4! Things change fast at Fenway! My Tuesday is over!

MONDAY, MONDAY

This Monday was full for me! After scanning my newspapers it was off to Hannaford NB for food. I spent $70 for food and the treat was Seafood Chowder which I had for supper. My biggest treat was reviewing a book called 'Reagan; A tribute". President Reagan had the charm with his many communicating skills. Reagan raised the rhetorical question: "Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?"  I responded "Yes" and received  a photographed letter and picture from the "Gipper!" Tonight Son Josh surprised me with a visit along with Miley. Tonight the Sox and the Rangers are tied 1-1 in the 5th. My Monday couldn't have been better!

A SUNDAY OF BASEBALL

This Sunday was perfect with clear blue skies and a low humidity. After watching Joel Osteen for words of inspiration it was reviewing the Sunday New York Times my mind was up for baseball. It wasn't long before I decided 5-0 deficit was enough so I fired up the Allante' taking it for another spin around time. Nobody was at Birch Hill so I kept driving coming upon Ron & Chrissies. Every was there! Heidi, Chase Robert, Evie and Daniel. This family get-together was good. I devoured a serving of Cheese cake. on Josh stopped by with a smile and a new haircut! Later I came home and filled a bag of "dirty" laundry. More baseball.. the Yankees, Mets and other. My only consolation was a over-sized amount of Black Raspberry! Tomorrow will be another good August ."Monday-Monday!"

MY DIFFERENT SATURDAY

The sky was pink as the clouds revealed the day is a tad shorter! This Saturday was full of sunshine. I just couldn't resist taking out the Allante' for a spin and that I did. As I drive up Birch Hill Rd. I noticed Josh's truck was home. As I pulled in Chase Robert alerted me of being in his studio. We had a nice visit when Josh joined our conversation. The Sox fell again to the Astros losing 5-4. Enough I say! One more game with the Astros tomorrow afternoon. Oh yes.. I enjoyed a dish of Blac Raspberry ice cream and Raisins to complete my Saturday.

ANOTHER COMPLETE DAY

My Friday was definitely complete! The weather didn't cooperate with downpours. I got through the day by watching Olympic competition before going to the Legion. Son Josh joined me for and Jeff Nickerson was fancy with his game of cards. Somehow his trick revealed today's date! We had fun and  my meal, two hot dogs and a Ginger Ale completed my visit. I did watch Jimmy Sturr  polkas. Tonight the Sox lead the Astros  3-1 in the Fifth. Hopefully they will get the game in! Clearing skies for tomorrow. The Legion's golf. tourney starts at 8:00 am at Quayle Hollow. Good luck everyone!

HAPPINESS THURSDAY

My Thursday was happy despite the clouds!  I'll give a shout out to my friends at Country Corner. As the day progressed I did shopping at Hannaford NB and bought about $70. My afternoon was spent watching different programs. I enjoy Bat Masterson  and Tales of Well Fargo! Later in the day my visit to Lily P at The Clam Box was in order.. It was the usual whole belly fried clams, French fries and and a Diet Pepsi. Josh came by to pick up my trash. My rain gauge registers .23 inches. No Sox game today and the Patriots are leading 7-0. Tomorrow, Friday, will see me go to the Legion and other surprises. Good night all loyal readers!!
