I am a trailblazer in my family as neither parent went to college! My journey was in bits and pieces having first graduated from Worcester Junior College in 1962. I was looking for a university that offered Meteorology and Saint Louis University was my choice. Back then air travel wasn't big so I chose to take a Greyhound from Worcester. The trip took 33 hours to Saint Louis. I was a transfer student residing in Clemens Hall. I first met Father Robert E. Bosken SJ who had an interest in old coins. He was my confessor and friend. Adjusting to college life in the big city of Saint Louis was difficult and I wanted to return to the Brookfields! My grades were "Average Attainment" and it took me time to learn about the City. I undertook jobs as mail clerk and worked in a package store on Olive Street. I began to learn about St. Louis taking bus rides about town. This historic city offered me much. In a postcard sent to mother dated 1-10 99 I wrote "The City, University and all the surrounds never looked better. St. Louis is sophisticated , historical, booming and attractive. a big change from 1962!" My sons Ben and Josh returned to St. Louis for 3 games in the 1987 World Series. We enjoyed the City, the Gate Way Arch and all surrounds. I pride myself in enduring my 5 semesters at SLU with a "Bachelor of Science .Conferred Feb 7, 1965." Meet Me In St. Louis! And yes.. I worked at the World Series in 1964. Everything about the city, the University, the Mississippi River which I drove an Amphicar across! Talk about courage. Yes, I'm a Billiken and proud of it!
