Richard Hawkes of Warren, Mass. tells a story.. enough to make you cry! "When I was 4 years old I was beneath my mother and her sewing machine. Playing, Richard looked up into the deathly point of her falling scissors. Gone was his vision forever! At age 70, Mr. Hawkes lives and believes. To me he's an inspiration!
One of the most famous individuals of all times was aviator Wiley Post. He, too, lost an eye by accident. This didn't stop him from inventing things like the pressurized Space Suit AND IDENTIFYING THE 'JET STREAM!"
He also served as humorist and noted columnist WILL ROGERS! This was back in the days when aviation was young.Barnstormers and Speed Kings entertained the masses every Summer across America and the World.
Two pilots I've known intimately are the Late David O. Kubly of Worcester Jr. College fame and Richard B. Johnson our Abominable Firebug. Also Gould McIntyre, age 93, at the Air Museum in Windsor Lock. Courage is a key word in being a pilot... and a "one-eyed pilot, like Post is incomprehensible.
It seems we all take human vision for granted in the scheme of things. Try flying blindfolded, upside down some time! LOL. Bleriot did!
