HOW TO BEAT THE FRIGID TEMPERATURES

In the old days a buffalo blanket was used to keep warm on a sleigh-ride! I had such a blanket in an auction held in Royalston at Jane Newton's mothers auction.

Traditionally, soapstone bed warmers were used to warm up the bed. As mentioned families slept under a puff or quilt. I had such bed covers as a boy. The reality is nothing has changed over the decades!

My folks heated with steam. The cast iron radiators hissed and oil was 15 cents a gallon. Keeping warm has always been one of survival!  Back then it was much cheaper.

Starting with the basics, a deep tub of bath water relaxes your muscles. Mother used to put my PJS on the bathroom radiator. My flannel PJS were always welcomed.

Smart people dress in cotton and wool and dress in layers. I like keeping warm, regardless.

  • Check to see all of your windows are closed tightly.
  • If you have more than one zone.. set the thermostat higher in your living quarters.
  • Pull your shades down at night.
  • Eat regularly as your body requires fuel too.
  • Remember heat seeks cold. and heat rises.
  • Put up draft barriers curtains in hall ways.
  • Have proper insulation in your home.
  • If you burn wood be very careful.
We are 1/3 through winter and February 1 is a week from next Friday!
 ENDURE with a smile!
