AVARICE is defined as 'Excessive desire to acquire possessions, wealth, ...craving for more than is necessary." Coupon clippers are included.
The North Brookfield DG store is almost 6,000 square feet according to the Plans reviewed today at the Selectmen's Office. The colossal superstructure is in competition with Lane's Garage, The Sun Lodge and the Martin D. Leach "Brain Factory" as Johnson calls it.
It is amazing what is being built by Dollar General. Further the concestion-factor will pose more problems with yellow school busses, cars, bicycles and pedestrians. Clearly no forethought was given in the pig picture! Drive by and see for yourselves.
The confluence of 148 and 67 at "Leach-Ville" will reveal the TRUTH
Now for the word avarice. harpy is the word for the day. "A greedy and predatory person."
Growing up in the Brookfields saw stores...yes.. Genes's Super Market with 3 lbs of hamburg for 99 cents, Donald Walker's Market on Summer Street was small and the IGA on Forest Street and the First National and MArty on Main Street gave cause to "friendly competition." Working in LaBelle's Food Centre for a year exposed me to EVERYTHING! From being stock boy to a delivery clerk to the rich on Brook's Pond and a Saturday run to New Braintree was great training for this veteran.
Commerce is commerce and business is business and I observed the writing on the wall in 1959 with LaBelle's growth chart. Hodes Market had come to East Brookfield and Spencer. Tiny shoe stores and Lamb's 5 & 10 redefined it ways. Gradually enterprises fell to Corporate America.
Today it seems MORE IS LESS AND LESS IS MORE! Smart phones expedite our consuming ways if we allow the JOLLY GREEN GIANT to enter.
Our innocent small town communities have been raped. Low paying jobs in the name of employment are a deception. Minimum Wage is minimum wage. But beware. Rebellion may be at hand. History reveals bankruptcy can enter anybody's doors at any time. Look at Radio Shack.
I study the marketing of many of the goods I buy and consume. Do you? Now Canada is making the news in new fields.
I have no sympathy for Dollar General after seeing their revelation. Spencer, The Brookfields and Ware are too small of communities to warrant this unprecedented growth. Somebody will surely lose in the long run.
