MY BIGGEST FEAR IN ANTIQUES

The United States government as gone from a gold standard to a silver standard to a 'no standard' in the past 80 years. The quest for MORE seems to fan the greed of some Americans. Today's world of electronics and containers gives a certain velocity to it all. Commerce makes for sleepless nights or so it seems. It is a world that never sleeps.

Our days are so unlike the days of 60 years ago. Changing tastes constantly redefine fashions and styles. From furniture to furnishings.. nothing is as it was.

Now, the kitchens are becoming the focal points of homes. Round Oak tables can be found at the local Salvation Armies. These stores have an 'Antiques department' with some prices that are out of kilter.

Traditional sources of antiques and collectibles are no longer the rule. Auction houses charge up to 20% buyers premium. This, in itself, will keep the bottom lines down.

Millennials could care less about U.S. History. This apathy affects antiques sales. I hear it all the time. Look for lower and lower prices in the antiques and collectibles markets....except for the $18,000 Super Man lunch pail.

Flea Markets are evolving into Free Markets.. or so it seems.

Sincerely,
