Blogging about Chevrolets is easy for me; have owned so many of them..maybe 12 or 13 of them.
Few may know the name of Chevrolet was that of a notable Swill-born race car driver who raced at Indy 4 times ,yet never won, left less than two years after the company was formed with co-founder "Billy" Durant fell into obscurity as the engine of General Motors revved into high RPMs.
Racing and automobile production evolved "hand in hand" then as it does now. MAN HAS ALWAYS LOVE TO SPEED!! Chevrolet beat the famed barney Oldfield at Indy but never won the title. It is interesting to note one FRANK COOKE admitted to driving at Indianapolis and yours truly drove a Lap with Brother Bill Gross who worked at the Brickyard in the summer of 1962! I have visited the Raceway Museum once or twice in the 1980s.
There's nothing more popular in the lexicon of Americana. Dinah Shore and Pat Boone had us "Seeing the USA in their Chevrolets." The "Chevrolet Bow Tie" even outweighs Henry's Signature logo. The evolution of body styles, suspension systems and engines are fun to study!
Last month I bought the book " Chevrolet Chronicle - A Pictorial History from 1904.. many moons ago, Indeed! "In 1912 2,999 cars were sold. In 1916 70,000 were sold. In 1919 150,000 units were sold! In 1923 the millionth Chevrolet was sold. Seven millionth in 1939. In 1929 Chevrolet sells 600,000 cars in the first six months. My dad's first car was a 1929 six-cylinder Chevrolet!
Chevrolet, has overwhelming, been once of America's "first choices for more than a Century!
Model names are recalled as 'The Eagle, the Bel-Air, the Two-Ten, The One-Fifty, Chevelle and Monte-Carlo, CORVETTE and Vega. Everybody seemingly loves Chevrolets. There has never been arrogance or prestige tied to the name. Chevrolets beget Chevrolet.
Chevrolet enthusiasts should buy the book from Amazon and enjoy the 320 power-packed pages as I do. ' CHEVROLET CHRONICLE' By Arch Brown, Pat Chappell, Bob Hall, and the Editors of Consumer Guide..
