THE INTENSE HEAT OF WEDNESDAY
Blood glucose 100 After getting my newspaper and mail I ran into problem with my mailbox #11! Couldn't get the key to release. Maybe the postmistress can help? The morning heat and sunshine was intense. I decided to remain home and enjoy the air conditioning. WiLL GO TO Hannaford tomorrow AM. Received a call from the VA nutritionist. I opted to "pass" on seeing them as I feel my weight of 163lbs has improved. I enjoyed 4 scrambled eggs for lunch. The St. Louis Cardinals played the Diamondbacks at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. I enjoyed watching the entire game. The Cardinals won. As the afternoon passed by the black clouds built up. I didn't get too far when I reversed my direction and returned home.Didn't want to chance getting wet. Called Josh telling him of my decision. Then a Tornado warning came over the TV. All of the weathermen alerted us of what might happen. It was more North of here. I heard the rumble of thunder but no rain. The Red Sox -Kasas City game was delayed about a half hour. Last night's victory meant "five straight!" Tonight KC has a 1-0 lead.

EVEN HOTTER TUESDAY
I received a call from Oregon where the temperature reached 116 degrees yesterday.America is on fire.Spoke with sister Jan who is enduring the heat.Josh stopped by before picking up Lily on day two of work at Howard's. He invited me over for a hot dog. The sky was threatening. There was a big crowd of adults and kids.At the first sign of rain I headed back to the Poodle. Thirty minutes later a torrential downpour with thunder and lightening prevailed> Glad I left when I did. The Red Sox and Kansas City are at it again.Sox are leading 3-2. One more day of extreme heat.

A VERY HOT MONDAY
BLOOD GLUCOSE 100 I woke up at 4:30 AM. Seems there's more daylight. I dozed off and got up for good at 7:00AM. My day was spent "inside." Work continues on the sidewalk. A base coat of gravel was laid right down to the end. There was more work in front of the Poodle.Maybe they'll finish it this week? More JFK Documentary watched for part of the morning and afternoon. I then switched to American Pickers. Saw Josh, Chase and Lily around 4:45.They were getting ready to go boating on Lake Wickaboag.I have kept comfortable with AC and fans going.Forgot about a NB cookout at noon. The heat raises the question of tonight's baseball game.Too many home runs by Kansas City. The Red Sox came back with a couple! My man Bobby Dalbac connected again. It was 5-2 Kansas City just now.

ANOTHER SWEEP OF THE YANKEES!
BLOOD GLUCOSE 100.It was a weekend of baseball and it was a weekend of heat.As I write I tell of the Boston Red Sox being in first place.. again! Lets hope the team can maintain momentum until the All-Star break. They are hitting and their home runs are stacking up. This Sunday felt different. "Johnson" came a bit later and we headed for "high country" to the Peace Pagoda.Nothing special. His truck has AC. We stopped at McDonalds in Belchertown on the way back.Dick was screaming in the order of burgers and fries.Josh came to do some yard work to include pruning smaller trees and trimming. The new fan is like a tornado! More baseball and Cherry Vanilla ice cream and more baseball from LA.

YANKEES GO HOME!
This Saturday was different. Instead of doing laundry on a Sunday I opted to do it today. Johnson was busy with other stuff. My day was spent in the confines of my air-conditioned Poodle. The Gay Pride group filled half of the Common. There were colorful flags flying, music playing and people everywhere. There was a good deal of officers including State Police and town police. It was peaceful.I took Chase down for a ride as I waited for Josh who was tied up with the Paolucci Golf Tournament. We did meet briefly. The BIG news was the Red Sox defeating the Yankees last night. The crowds at Fenway exceed 36,000 both last night and tonight. Tonight the Sox are ahead 3-0. Go Sox! I ate more cherries and a salad plus Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. Speaking of ice cream Lily Potvin will work at Howards tomorrow dishing out ice cream! Josh gave me a fan but I find it too BIG.

THE YANKEES ARE IN TOWN
Blood glucose 113 Weight 160lbs After a devastating 1-0 loss to Tamp Bay last night, tonight's festivities at Fenway honoring Dustin Pedroia before a full house was a good way to begin the game. Both the Red Sox and Yankees started off with each scoring 3 runs in the first inning made me nervous! Seems the Red Sox aren't playing their best...and it was only the 1st inning. This Friday left much to be desired. I traveled to North Brookfield to see what progress has been made in the demolition of the auction complex. Much of the debris has been removed. I'll follow it closely. I reviewed some of the new book.."An Especially Good View". Speaking of the price of gas Cumberland Farms in Brookfield and East Brookfield are at $3.03 a gallon where the Spencer stataions are at $2.85! Greedy you might say. Country Corner is now $2.95 a gallon. Josh came over and mowed my lawn. He then invited me to a campfire. The skies cleared a bit. Evie and MAddie played in the pool. No Johnson tomorrow.I may do laundry?

CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES
It was 40 degrees early this morning. The "sidewalk engineers" were at it in front of my house building a driveway apron. The adroit talent of the bucket man impresses me. It will be given another course soon. The WB Postmistress is a reader of my blog! welcome. The demolition of the NB auction complex continues. It has been another day of baseball. The Yankees swept Kansas City and will be in Boston for the weekend.Received a belated Father's Day gift from Josh & Heidi. In addition to a nice gift card from Hannaford I received a book "An Especially Good View" by Peter L.W. Osnos. Thanks! Tomorrow is Friday and as I say 'Good Things Happen!' Tampa Bay and the Red Sox are playing right now. 0-0 after six innings!

BLACKTOP SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF POODLE
Blood glucose 105 a cold morning to begin with. I even put on the heat for a moment. In getting my NY Times I ran into Josh at Country Corner and paid him for the rent. At nine Chase called me for a ride from Howard's to his house then down to the elementary school. By ten o'clock the paving of the sidewalk in blacktop was in front of my house. It will get a second coating which will be spiffy! Progress is notable. Baseball came on at 1:00 PM. The interesting part of the contest is both teams hit grand-slam homeruns. The Sox won last night against Tampa Bay. Tonight it seems the Sox has their work cut out. Right now TB leads 5-1.Visited Ronnie's where Heidi and the girls were.Ronnie gave me a camoflouged Red Sox cap! Another cool night. No AC.

CONTINUED SIDEWALK EXCAVATION
The best part of the day came with my Social Security payment. Called Josh who happened to be in Boston. Will pay the rent tomorrow. The work continues on the new sidewalk. Even though there wasn't any blacktop paving today work continues towards town.My suspicion is the remaining stretch will be completed before paving. The work downtown is formidable under separate contractors. It is a mess! I suppose in the final analysis it will look good! Received a nice Fathers DAy card from Ben. Also received a summary of benefits from the VA. I get 20% or $396.67 a month. The weather chanaged for the worse as the day progressed. Had Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream then enjoyed Stouffers Macaroni & Cheese for supper along with Bing cherries.Chatted with Chase after supper. Sox are in Florida for 3 games. Clearing skies will happen overnight!

NEW SIDEWALK EXCAVATION
Much of the day was spent observing heavy equipment digging in front of the Poodle. I did my food shopping early in NB then retreated to the Poodle. The muggy weather saw me stay in all day. Another layer of gravel was spread over the initial scraping. A roller compacted the new gravel. There wasn't any indication when the blacktop would come. I believe it may be tomorrow. I didn't go to Birch Hill but instead left a message for Josh. As it was he was mowing. He did call after supper saying a Fathers Day gift for me was on his table. I watched American Pickers and the Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves. Nancy D called at mid-afternoon.I like how the day turned out!

MY QUIET FATHERS DAY
It was a quiet Fathers Day with disappointments. Other than doing my laundry and driving Chase to Palmer my day was spent watching baseball. I altered between the Red Sox and Yankees. The Yankees won making their third tripple play of the season and the Red Sox lost to Kansas City. That's okay as Tampa Bay lost too. The excitement comes with the sidewalk installation. They should be blacktopping it in front of the Poodle in the next two days. To NB on Monday for food. I will check out the demolition of the Langevin complex in the center of town. I enjoy my AC! Saw the white CAdillac Allante' with CT plates passing through town!

I will pick him up at 9:30 AM. The Boston Red Sox defeated the Kansas City Royals 7-1 evening out the series. They played a good game. For the moment they are tied for first place. Johnson lost again at Twin River. Enough!

A CLEAR COOL FRIDAY THEN CLOUDS.
This Friday was good. It began by getting a copy of FORBES. The feature was the selection of Forbes 50 over 50 citing women who have achieved. Karen S. Lynch, President and Chief Executive Officer was originally from WARE! I wrote Karen a letter of congratulations as she previously was President of AETNA! I have corresponded with Karen in the past. She is 58 years old. I previously mentioned receiving an explanation of the $545 reimbursement. Nice! Received a Fathers Day gift from Ben, Allison and Savannah..a box of treats 1-800 baskets.com to include..Snax mix, Walkers White Chocolate & Raspberry Cookies, Sourdough Pretzels, and some Kettle Popcorn which I enjoy the most. Never had Kettle Popcorn before! Thanks! Barrett-Jackson Auction had an incedible Cadillac Allante'..a 1993 with under 200 miles..NEW. It was auctioned off for $37,000. A rare find. sox ARE IN Kansas City Go Sox!

A DAY WITH CHASE
The morning was clear and somewhat cold with temperatures in the low 40s. Chase was working the early bird shift at Howard's doing french fries. He rode his bike from home and left it in my garage. Next I watched the Sox In 2 and enjoyed seeing the Grand Slam to give them a 10-8 victory..the same as the night before. Barrett Jackson Auction is live from Las Vegas where Steve Magnante is commentor. I was particularly interested to see a series of four Rolls Royce selling for 10% of their original prices. Cheap. Chase called saying he wanted to leave for Ludlow at 4:00 for soccer practice.Ludlow is an impressive community with some spectacular homes. Chase drove both ways and even scored a goal.It was a full day for me.I didn't ride the exercise bike tonight for the first time since getting it.

A WEDNESDAY OF BASEBALL
Blood glucose 109 The weather cleared nicely for this Wednesday. After doing food shopping I filled my pill cady. After watching the International news I settled in to watching MLB from St. Louis. The Cardinals played the Marlins. It was a pitcher's duel 0-0 to the nineth inning then Ardi Molena scored the winning run to defeat the Marlins 1-0. I have an afection for St. Louis and like it when they win. Saw Josh & Chase at 5:00 and visited for a while.Chase is one busy Cougar. Tomorrow morning I pick him up at 8:45 AM for work at Howard's. Josh & Heidi go on vacation to Key West tomorrow. The kids will stay at grandparents. A cool night ahead.

RAIN DROPS
The Late B.J. Thomas' hit song "Rain Drops Keep Falling.." is appropriate for this blog. I was called to pick up Chase at Quaboag after baseball practice when huge rain drops fell as I drove an open Allante'. I held my breath and got out of a sticky situation in style. The drops lasted less than a minute. An hour later in the confines of my home I observed rain-coming down.A close call. Pete Bouchard Boston weatherman reported serious thunderstorms on the North Shore. The day was a transitional one. Now at dusk the skies have cleared and tomorrow will be a "winner." Much of my day was spent watching Storage Wars and a car auction. I watch these to keep abreast of markets. Also, I ate steak for two meals.Tonight the Red Sox have started off in Alanta with a lead of 5 runs. GO SOX!

A MONDAY SURPRISE IN MY MAIL
Blood glucose 99; weight 162lbs. The day began with thunder showers. I traveled to Dollar General for two Fathers Day cards for Ben & Josh. I then traveled to NB to Hannaford for routine purchases. It was pouring rain as I left. I waited for it to clear up to get my mail from Box 10.It seemed to be routine with a copy of Time Magazine. I reached up to find a surprise at the bottom of the box: a Treasury envelope with what appeared to be a check!I got in my Honda and tore open the envelope: A check for $545 payable to yours truly. No references. Amazing. I cashed it and deposited it to my checking account. My day was defined. The new guardrails and blacktop walk is progressing nicely. Should pass the Poodle in a day or two. Progress.

A SUNDAY OF HOME RUNS
This Sunday bordered on perfection except for one thing: THE BOSTON RED SOX! It was another Fenway fiasco. The Toronto Blue Jays scored 18 runs with 20 hits. The Blue Jays kept hitting home runs like there was no tomorrow.Hopefully the final game tomorrow night will reveal a composed team. It's scary! The weather today was low humidity and blue skies. I didn't realize how cool it was until I received a haircut at about 10am. Josh said I was 'overdue'. He also reported 'dandruff.' My excise bill of $138.13 was received and paid. The Allante' has a valuation of $5,525.00. Enjoyed watching SIXTY MINUTES tonight. AC back on as the weather is changing again.

MY "NO JOHNSON" SATURDAY
BLOOD GLUCOSE 99 Richard B. Johnson called stating he couldn't make it because of a flat tire on his truck. Rarely does Dick call off our ritual. He has got to raise $300 for a replacement. After reorganizing my day I decided it would be about baseball. There were games on all afternoon into the evening. But first I mention the shower experienced to begin the day. It didn't last long and took all day to clear. The drought in the Southwest is extreme this early in the season.Thank God our reservois are near full.As far as baseball goes, the Sox won last night in fine style. Tonight Toronto clobbered the Sox with 4 home runs. Saw Josh who mowed my lawn with the lawn tractor.Nice job!Laundry tomorrow then to the Barber of Birch Hill. Looks like a niceday coming up!

A CLOUDY FRIDAY
Blood glucose 110 This was a different kind of Friday. The good news of the Red Sox victory over Houston last night made the day bright. Overcast conditions prevailed.I bought a big bag of bind cherries at Hannaford.Nothing else special. In looking for entertainment I discovered Opening Day in Chicago for the Cubs. It was a crystal blue sky as the Cubs went on to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs came from behind to win.I reported to Josh's for 5:00. He was having a pizza party for his soccer team.Didn't know any of the youth and opted not to stay. The day was threatening and I was afraid of getting caught in the rain.It never happened.Watched a little bit of ABBA's Super Trooper. Yawn. Tonight the Sox are playing the Blue Jays and have fallen early on. Not good!

A COOLER THURSDAY
The whole day was cooler and brighter.Bought some Forever flag stamps at the PO for $11.00. Detailed the Allante' with some clear water then wiped it down with a bath towel. Looks good. Didn't mention I have a 2021 One Cent and a 2021 Dime.. the first gotten. Had two meals of steak and beets.... then settled down to an Eagles Concert DVD from Melbourne, Australia. It was held at the Rod Lavers arena seating 16,200 fans. I devoured the 30 tunes played. My favorites are Lyin' Eyes. Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling and Hotel California. Watching the concert was reminiscent of Ben and I attending an Eagles Concert at the Centrum maybe 10-15 years ago. We sat in the third row! It's a way of relaxing and enjoying their talents. I like the Late Glen Frey and the Walden Woods drummer, Don Henley best! News about our new sidewalk. They began paving with blacktop at Ridge Road. Should pass my house in a day or two. The day was comfortable. Sox are leading Houston 4-3!

A BETTER DAY TODAY
Blood glucose 110 Although the heat continues this Wednesday, the skies were brighter. My task was to "entertain" my time by watching videos. Humanity From Space is a two hour epic journey of discovery dating back 12,000 years. It covers why we have so much today and are totally dependent on electricity. If you are looking for something to "beat the heat" get a copy of this PBS special from your library!Next I watched'CARPENTERS GOLD.' Fifteen of their greatest hits will take you back to the Seventies. Karen Carpenter was a spectaculer singer of her time. Next I watched a portion of BLACK & WHITE Night featuring ROY ORBISON. Bruce Springsteen is featured. I plan on watching THE EAGLES and the BEE GEES tomorrow. Picked up Chase at Quabaug; saw Josh briefly. As far as the SOX go The Astros are clobbering by beloved home team.

A TUESDAY TO FORGET
Blood glucose 132. This day was full of challenges. It seems the weather is beginning to take its toll on my spirit. To say the least I found things to occupy my morning like going thru two pints of blueberries with stems. I was too eager to buy 2 for $4.00. Usually I buy the large berries. These were small and inferior.Caveat emptor! I will pay attention in the future.Anyway I took the time to "de-stem" them. As the day wore on the clouds thickened and we even had lightening by mid-afternoon. I enjoyed watching B.J. Thomas sing on YouTube. He's the best and has a slew of hits from yesteryear.I then decided it was "more JFK." I watches Year of Lightening Day of Drums" and his 'We Choose To Go To The Moon" speech. At 4:00 I contacted Josh learning about his boating of yesterday. The kids enjoyed the fun. As far as the Red Sox go...Houston is thEIr nemisis!

AN AIR-CONDITIONED MONDAY IN JUNE
This is the second day of this heat wave.I went about business getting food early then returning to the mail then to my air conditioned comfort. Got my light bill .. $69.23. Cheap. Also received notice of my 60TH Class Reunion
to be held on August 6 at 308 Lakeside, East Brookfield.. $35.00 per person. I plan on attending. I returned home after getting the mail and watched JFK Hidden Tapes for three hours. Nothing new.. nothing old. I was up for the day as my beloved Red Sox swept the Yankees under the carpet. Now they are in the 9h inning eady to take care of the Marlins leading 5-2. Visited Josh at 4:00. He invited me tohelp him with the boat.He was launching it at the Town Beach. Chase came by and drove the boat to launch point. Also received my B-12 supplement from Dr. Sanjay. One more day of heat and humidity!

AN AIR CONDITIONED SUNDAY IN JUNE
Blood glucose 99 The heatwave is in force.I take an offence by running my air conditioner 24/7. Comfort is important to me. On Sunday I go about my morning in a routine manner. It cost me $5 to wash and dry. The laundromat is usually quiet. Rarely do I have to wait for a dryer. My bed is made as I wind down the task. I watched a YouTube special about the singer who died alast week: B.J. Thomas.I liked his style and song: Raindrops Keep Falling and many others.Thomas was a week younger than yours truly. He died of lung cancer. I watched some baseball then went over to Birch Hill at 4:00 pm. Josh and Brian and Jay were seated at a table with a sun umbrella at poolside.. None of the men knew who B.J. Thomas was! Chase was amused by squirting my car with a big water gun! (Punk!) The heat wave continues. 90 degrees, clear, judt plain hot!

A SUNSHINE SATURDAY IN JUNE
This Saturday was warm with much sunshine. Dick Johnson came as expected and gave me the grand tour of Worcester County.. Spencer, Paxton, Worcester and others. We went up to WSRS/WTAG empty buildings. Low and behold a rare 1933 Chevrolet 2 door sedan with one headlight was located near the top of the "mountain." I haven't seen one of these in 50 years. We headed back looking for a McdONALDS and located one in Spencer. We got the usual..i.e. Burgers, fries and a cokes for a total of $7.58 plus tax. I admit there's not much flavor to the fast food! After Johnson came baseball. I watched the Cardinals and Reds play in St. Louis.Next was taking the Allante' to Birch Hill. Josh was just leaving for my house to mow the lawn.He rode in my car and did a perfect mowing with the riding mower. He also loaded up the Honda with a ton of newsprint which I delivered to Birch Hill.I then visited with Jay O and Josh at poolside. It was a pleasant visit. The farmers mowed the hayfield. Summer is here!

A MUGGY FRIDAY IN JUNE
Blood glucose 110 - The day was good. After reading the New York Times in depth including the death notice of F.Lee Bailey and Coach Mike Krzewski I participated in taking the American Community Survey I pan-fried some steak for lunch.Coupled with pickled beets, gherkins and olives I took to WBZ for noon news. Then in the afternoon I logged onto YouTube looking for some goodies. I found CALVIN COOLIDGE. I have been attracted to our 30th President since a boy. I learned all of the Presidents by my collecting U.S. Postage stamps. I found a 30 minute feature covering Coolidge's life. I have traveled to Plymouth Notch, VT 3-4 times in my lifetime. I also interviewed John Coolidge while living in CT. LAter in the afternoon I drove the Allante' to Birch Hill. Josh was busy mowing so I came back home. Then he called asking me if were raining? It was downpouring at his home. I mmade it safely back and garaged the car in the garaage.. then it was dounpouring hefe for 10 minutes. Then he called me stating "I have a campfire going." I took the black Honda and returned. We are never short for words. The skies cleared. My day was above average!

A CHANGE IN THE WEATHER
Our weather pattern isn't encouraging. In a couple of days the temperatures will soar into the nineties. Not good. I have been enjoying my AC which gives me comfort. Some folks don't like air conditioning. I do! The highlight of the day came with the Red Sox defeating Houston 5-1.I enjoyed seeing them turn the page after too many defeats. Now we are fired up for three games with the New York Yankees. Go Sox! My Lantus insulin pens arrived today in a timely fashion. Seems all of my medications arrive in a timely fashion. Shopped at Hannaford to the tune of $42. Bought more steak and enjoyed some for supper.Spoke with Josh who was at Chase's baseball game.Drove the Allante' in my usual tour aroung town at 4:00. Cleaners tomorrow.

METAL DETECTING 2021
Metal detecting can be for folks of all ages! "People have been detecting since 1881 when Alexander Graham Bell invented a device to find the bullet lodged in President JAmes A. Garfield." Today's New York Times has a full page spread on the state of art today. Metal detecting is growing as the detectors are becoming more sophisticated. The term detectorist applies to all enthusiasts from all walks of life. A world-wide organization RING FINDERS with a publication that spans the globe. My late friend, Mike Lee of Ware was passionate about his quest as evidenced by gold and silver found ANYWHERE!Gold rings are a favorite for the detectorists. Rings missing for years have been found in the sands of time. " Detectors can range from a couple of hundred dollars upward to $5,000. A popular pick for experts is the French-made XPDeus $900 and for kids, the Nokta Makro Minu Hoard ($120.") My grandson Chase is a detectorist. Looking for a new hobby? A SUNNY BEGINNING TO THIS WEDNESDAY
Blood glucose 100 The day began cool. I had plans in getting my Honda washed in Sturbridge. Before that I damp-washed my Allante' when interrupted by a phone call from Gov. Charlie Baker's Office! It was in response to a message I left yesterday asking for some help from the Registry. It was a friendly call. After pleading my case I was assured of "getting my message to the Registry." Then I drove to C & R Tire in Sturbridge for a class A wash..$5 and a $2 coupon. Upon returning I got a call from Dr. Sanjay reviewing my recent blood draw. She's concerned with my B-12 count and agreed to send a prescription. Next I received a call from Nguyen the pharmacist at the VA.Another friendly call saying "things looked good." Bill Gross called from the west coast telling of a fall last week.Bill didn't talk for long. Finally I called J. Maurice Barfield in South Georgia.Things are well with him. I watched the Cubs and San Diego play.A terrible collision of two players in the outfield highlighted the game.

TUESDAY, JUNE 1ST A DAY OF CHORES
My day was filled with chores. First, I drove to Dollar General for a birthday card for Savannah, my youngest grandchild. I then inserted a cash gift and mailed it to Belmont, NC. I then dug into my challenge of obtaining the POTVIN vanity plate for my Allante'. I called Senator Gobi's office and had a slew of recordings. Not good. I also sent a note to Senator Brewer asking Steve if he had any "contacts." I will get to the bottom of this challenge if it takes a month of Sundays! I pan-fried steak for lunch along with pickled beets and pickles. My next chore was giving the Allante' a bath. The cumulative pollen cover needed a damp towel-wipedown.While doing this Josh called alerting me to games of Chase and Madeline. Chase #21 plays second.Don't know who the competition was??. Little Evie came over to visit as Josh visited with his mother. I remained for 90 minutes.Gave Josh a Cooperstown brochure. We're thinking of taking a trip this summer for a day. This day was full of challenges.
